Plastic welding

I have a name brand hot air SII plastic welder with various tips. It is similar to Harbour freights cheap copy. I have never had luck making a decent weld, mainly in HDPE, which should be one of the easiest to do. I have double filtered air. I haven't tried nitrogen which has been suggested. Any one have links to online training or videos on the process?  I have 20 kayaks and 15 paddle boats to repair plus many commercial playground parts. Most are HDPE, there may be some LDPE, but I don't think so.

Reply:I repaired the HDPE bumper on a friends Porsche. Got it painted up and it looked like new.  I used the soldering iron type and first tacked the pieces even with each other. Then I melted some fine stainless steel mesh embedding it into the plastic. I used the filler rod through the melting shoe to cap. The mesh is the key. It won't break there again. I even re made one of the tabs where the bumper had a screw hole. More mesh there.
Reply:Had some cracks in my wheeler rear fender. Found an old cycle fender and cut 1/8" strips from it and used my old Weller soldering gun. Reply:I have had many 500-3000 gallon water tanks for fire trucks welded with HDPE and guns similar to mine. The take the pounding and surges of emergency driving. Unfortunately the last guy that made me one moved away, so I can't get a lesson from him. Pierce Fire Engines makes all their new water tenders (3000-4000 Gal) out of welded HDPE. So I know it's just a lack of skill thing on my part. The brand welder is Sealy which was top of the line at the time.
