I got all the hydrolic glands rebuilt on my CASE 680 (different thread) and re torqued the the one I welded together to around 560 some odd lbs. Im now getting hose leaks as xpected and not only one but both clevis's are now broken So Im thinking Im in over my head this time and Im not asking for advice because, lets just say its gonna be a challenge to weld up and line bore it together and I dont need any teardown. I first asked myself, what would ZAP do (no not TIG) and the answer came to me. Not sure if this is how the old boy would do it but it got me started just the same. Ive completed the first clevis (easy one) and thought it might be worth showing? I heated the 7018 to 300* and left the oven on for 3 days. About $10 in electric @ 15.9 cents/KW. Not really sure if it was necessary ?BTW, blackbart, the sway ram was straight but the outrigger was bent. Thanks for the warning because it woulda been depressing not knowing that that happens. In the pics are my new cutting/welding binch I made. The slag falls onto sloped sheetrock and then into the trash. Keeps the floor cleaner and gives me a secure feeling from starting a fire. I ordered a cheapo boring tool on E_bay and had to learn to use it and compromise for the quality of tool on the fly. I thought I had a pic using the boring tool but the 2nd pic is the setup I used and pre drilling to 1 inch. The 3rd pic is a mirror to read a scale setup on the cross slide. I was tired of stooping to check it and needed light. I plan to magnify also. I know you guys use a dial indicator but I think my scale has zero backlash. The scale on left and mirror on right. The last pic is a Ratlte snake wanting to come into the garage that I had to kill squash its head (Im sorry) with the same size/kind of flat bar used to make a torque amplifier. He was still alive in the pic but trapped by his head and flat bar. The last pic is the new binch in process. BTW the Hypertherm_380 was and is a huge help. It was at its limits cutting 3/4 inch thou. For the next clevis, I may have to build up bosses (name ?) to copy the original. I will use 7018 then bore or pre bore and build. Attached Images
Reply:InsanerideIt looks more like a Pituophis catenifer deserticola, engaged in nothing more ominous than rectilinearcreeping. When I am so threatened - I use a stick, thumb & forefinger - to evict the interloper. The kids enjoy the eviction, and there's no blood to clean-up. Opus
Reply:I don't recognize those clevis's. Which rams are they from, the swing? On my last 680 I just left the mounts loose because it was almost impossible to have the tower square with those cylinders. They were impossible to keep tight anyway. It's not the right repair, but on a machine that old, lining the tower up with the swing is practically impossible Nice rattlesnake! There was one in my shop yesterday I walked right over without seeing, my coworker saw it.
Reply:OPUS Fe, Ive had rattlers and blow snakes (hick term) your probably rite about the type of snake but it was shaking its tail and striking at my flat bar. I wasnt worried about a little blood on the driveway as theres lots of oil stains anyway but I was trying to be merciful. I thought about severing its head with the bar to check for fangs but again, I was being merciful. He seemed to have just come out of hibernation. BTW I had to reed that 3 times before I figured out you were talking about the snake.Bart, the clevis's are the hitch's that hold the hoe to the back of the 680. Again, thanks for your help.I found the pic of the boring tool in use. Attached ImagesLast edited by Insaneride; 05-09-2013 at 10:43 AM.
Reply:sorry, but I don't play around with Venimous snakes. I'd of done the same thing he did to that one. Luckily I live where the one venimous ones are in a zoo, or just the random tag along from the wrong side of the state. There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:Holy ****! I would have had a heart attack. At the very least had the hebe jebes for the rest of the day. Man I hate those things. F a shovel on one that big I'm gettting my Glock and 13 rds of glorious .45 ACP.
Reply:I see it now, it is an older design than I have worked on. Looks like a detachable hoe I used to have on a dozer. Not sure what to do there except beef them up, they are going to take a heck of a lot of banging. |
