I have a shopmaster 300cccv and am looking for a good mig wire feeder. I'm not to up to date on these things but have a lot of experiance with mig welding in general. I've found a couple used.. a heft cccv a miller model 60 a miller s52e and an s22a.. what would be my best choice and easy to operate. I do a lot of suspension and trailer fabrocation.. thanks
Reply:Ill have to double check.. but I believe the hefty which looks brand new was 400 with all cables. The 52e for 200.. the other two I'm still working on but will be under 400. Thanks for the reply
Reply:I run suitcase feeders off of my Shopmaster. I like them because when working on a semi dump trailer, I can carry it in the trailer with ease.BTW, I bet I have a newer Shopmaster than you! I was told I got one of the last two in the Miller warehouse, when I bought mine. Mine is serial # LC293950"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:My shopmaster is a little on the old side but works good.. my millermatic 252 was stolen and I can afford another one so that's why I'm looking for a feeder.. I know very little about them but would like to get performance similar to what I got with the 252
Reply:I was told the heft wasn't very good for mig.. only fc or double sheld
Reply:I don't know what I want..lol. that's the problem.. not sure which will fit my needs the best. Which areas do they accel and which do the lack?
Reply:Hopefully Tozzi will chime in, he runs two Hobart Hefty's. And I'm sure he runs had wire from them."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Guess i'm gonna go hefty
Reply:I run dual shield and hardwire through my Hefty feeders everyday. They are great durable units that can be has for short money because everyone needs to be seen with an LN-25 or a new 12VS.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:The heft comes with gun and regulator. Is the 14pin cord needed? Guys asking 400 its a pretty clean box. Is that a good price.
Reply:Get it, no 14 pin needed the Hefty is a VS feeder, clip your lead and your good to go. I did this with my Hefty the other day.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=236971It runs dual shield like a dream.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:That's nice... the dual sheld is a lot better then the solid for this machine?
Reply:How's it do on the thin stuff?
Reply:I can run .035 hard wire and do body panels and exhausts no problem. You are running on CV so it is no different than running a Millermatic 251. The people that tell you a suitcase is only good for fluxcore and heavy stuff have only run them off a CC power source.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:10/4.. Thanks for the info.. Gonna go ahead and get it
Reply:Also this is the hobart hefty not the thermal arc hefty if that makes any difference |
