Was looking at CL the other day, and out of the blue............What I've been looking for about the last 4 monthsHook up the trailer, load the ramps, load the winch, pile some chains/binders on, and it's off to Blanchard.  Spend a day on the road bad back 'n allGot there, and the fun began.  Had to cut the control rods on the Maxibrakes to release them so the cutoffs would roll.  These guys had a torch luckily.  The history on the axles is sad to some extent.  They're the result of a tornado that took the dood's house, and both of his storage trailers about 3yrs ago.  This is about all that's left after scrapping most of it.  No insuranceHooked up my winch to the front of the trailer.  This is an old winch I picked up at a farm sale about 10yrs ago.  All that was there was the gears and drum.  Paid 20 bucks for it.  Modified it to attach to anything I want.  Been handy over the years. The first one is winched to the back of the trailer, and loaded.  I brought the wrong size pins for the ramps, and we used some sucker rod instead  Strong stuffThe first set of tandems is rolled forward just enough to leave enough room for operating the winch.  The next set of tandems is then loaded."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Got the second set on, and tied it all down for the trip home. The right rear brake on the trailer locked up while going through OKC, and lit the linings on fire.  Had to disconnect the wiring to the brake, and headed on my way again.  Now this trailer is down to only 1 working brake   Boogie on down the highway with 25% brakes...................Okie Stylin' Suppose you're wondering what these are for???????"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:$200 for the pair, and I gave the guys $60 for the help to load it all.  Bad as my back is right now, it was money well spent, and I think they probably will use it well."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I'd like to have some of those pop up for sale like that as well.  The **** I could build....
Reply:Come on... Samm doesn't have enough broken truck parts... He needs more projects to suck up money since he's rich and self employed. ( by definition if you own your own business, you must be rich...)Going to jack up your big shed or the house and move it Mennonite style there Samm?.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Roller skates for Godzilla? When you said you were heading to Blanchard with the trailer I was thinking you'd found a big old grinder. Are you planning on building something or just use them for parts? Either way you stole them.
Reply:Paul Bunyan status. So is there going to be an entire build thread or are we just going to have to use our imagination? Nice buy!

Reply:I suppose, if everything goes well..............it'll wind up being one of theseYou can buy them used for a semi reasonable price http://www.thetruckguide.com/details.php?MID=34546  but you'll have to put around 4-8000 buck into them to get them actually "road ready"  (remember my trailer rehab )So why not start fresh, get exactly what you need, and build for the price of a GOOD used one.Checked with the State, and my insurance company.  It's doable.Axles need to be gone over, rims swapped for 22.5" tubless, brakes etc.  Still cheaper than new axles.  Have to find a set of landing gear, and the components are ready to go.  Probably sometime next Winter.I like the older early 90's vintage Great Dane's.  Probably just copy the design, and materials specs.  These older trailers were built before the use of high tensile strength beams so you can do one using mild steel.  Heavier, but still very useable AND STOUT.  Look at an older one..........beefy.And.........I've been wanting a 32' single axle skip trailer too.  Nice little short single axle flatbed for the LN9000All depends on whether the well comes in I guess.  They be drilling in the section where "homeplace" is.  All landowners in that section will share in the royalties.  It's a formation thing, and it's also because of directional drilling.  Sort of a complicated business, above my pay grade."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I like the "closed" tandems, easier to get around.  With open tandems the stupid things scuff too much, and don't do good in tight areas unless they're air ride with a dump valve.  AND I HATE AIR RIDE.  All it does is deteriorate when not in use.  The bags go bad"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Well the trailer he has pictured only needs one set of axles so I predict he plans on building a dolly with the other set so he can haul doubles back and forth to Texas! Reply:Well I think I will have to go on the hunt for all the pics on a build like this, I was getting my hopes up for an eight wheeler though. Either way a trailer from scratch is pretty sweet!
