Finally had a chance to make one. Should of done it alot sooner! Now all I need to do it make a press brake for it, and I'm golden. Instead of drilling holes and putting a rod to adjust the height, I welded in a c-channel for it to fit on. I may add one or two more position later on, but for the time being, this is a good height and with the amount travel that the jack has, shouldn't be an issue fitting bigger things. If anyone does see anything of concern, do let me know. Attached Images
Reply:From out here in the cheap seats it passes the TLAR inspection just fine!I would suggest running some safety cables through those spring just to be safe.RogerOld, Tired, and GRUMPYSalesman will call, Batteries not included, Assembly is required, and FREE ADVICE IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAY FOR IT!Dial Arc 250HFThunderbolt 225 AC/DCAssorted A/O torches
Reply:Very nice workmanship. That is a curious joint formed by the top and the verticals--probably could have been butted. And I would not want to give up the simplicity and strength of through-pinned height adjustments found on most commercial presses.
Reply:The use of channel for the verticals makes doing the through holes difficult as you size limitations on the Pin...Would i have done it the way you did it? probably not, but your press is far better than mine... being as I don't have one. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:I think the welding is real nice.  Strength shouldn't be an issue.I got one big "uh-oh" thoughYour tray/bottom thingy isn't height adjustable.  It should be pinned instead of sitting on the welded pieces of channel.  The first time you fit something under the press THAT WON'T FIT BECAUSE IT'S TOO LARGE, you'll kick yourself"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Looks like a nice press. Any thoughts about getting an air over hydraulic jack for it? I have one and love it.I think you guys misread, he said he was going to weld on some more channels to have some adjust ability.
Reply:I believe dual control hydraulic is better if you intend to use it as a press brake as it provides much closer control..
Reply:I just bought that exact 20 ton bottle jack last week, $38 delivered (after discounts) from Northern....
Reply:Hi, yes, I think I'd have to second the adjustability function......holes and pins are so simple to make adjustments.....I'd have bolted the top channels too, and the base/stand/feet whatever....too much welding is not good design.Ian.

Reply:Here's what I did I took a Harbor Freight 20 ton shop press air over hydraulic pump and bought the brake press kit from swag off roadSent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2 Attached ImagesMiller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Reply:Nice build. I considered that approach but opted for the h/f unit that i tweaked. I might have saved time and or money?? You can see I significantly beefed up the cross member at the top and added a heavy plate to support the channels at the bottom. Air over hydraulic is necessary not optional unless you don't value your time and arm! Press break kit was a fun project. Love the guys at swag offroad! Also I added 4 in locking swivel casters so I can move it around one-handed. Otherwise it is essentially immoveable practically speaking. Great addition to the shop!Miller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Reply:DJ55Looks like a real sturdy press you will find it most handy to have Great Job!!If you can adjust the screw easily on top of the Jack you will have quite a bit of adjustment. One thing I would and probably will copy from the Eliotmay (other press pictured) is the hand wheel on the jack release that would be handy.Again great Job

Reply:Here's what I did; I just picked up an older Carolina (USA made) 50-ton press for $350. It has the 2-speed pump. It's probably heavier than necessary, and it might be a good move to replace the seals.
