At what point do you purchase a water cooled TIG torch???I know when it is toooooo hot !!!Seriously..........
Reply:Honestly when you are regularly exceeding the duty cycle of your torch. With 17 series torches that's usually when you are running over 150 amps on a regular basis or over 200 amps even on a limited basis.Of course you could also go with an air cooled torch with a higher duty cycle and amp rating as well..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:I've seen enough students trying to tig weld in stick gloves. They might as well be oven mits. .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:You can also go with water cooled if you want a smaller torch.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:Once you go water you will never go back...Just don't let it freeze in the winter..It's so cold here in the daytime I have to take my exhaust out hose back in the shop if I stop welding for 5 mins..if not it freezes......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Depends on lots of things.Amperage rating on the torch (and duty cycle)Actual Amperage you are running at, and for how long (pushing the DC of the torch?).Base metal (I see more water cooling with aluminum projects than steel)How hot is your hand getting?I personally would go water cooled if I'm running in the 75% range for the torch. But then I would also look at size and weight of the next step up gas cooled versus same size water cooled. Also, is the system stationary, or is it mobile? Some coolers are easier to pull in and out of a vehicle than others.138# anvilHomebuilt 6 tap kegerator100# cone anvil5" post viceVarious hammers ranging from 250g to 2000gSome tongsA few screwdriversA wrench or twoOh, and a Fronius TPS 2700

Reply:I just recently did a rebuild on an old Bernard cooler and got setup with 25' Lincoln leads and PT-W-20 water cooled torch, love it highly recommend going to water cooled if you can swing it. No regrets, I was welding 1/8 aluminum with my air cooled setup previously and that was max in my opinion that I could handle let alone some of the consumables for any length..... tried the new setup and stays stone cold through longer beads. See before and after. Attached ImagesLincoln Precision Tig 185Miller 180 Autoset
Reply:I went ahead and got an HTP water cooler and a #20 series CK swivel head torch to go along with my HTP 221. I did some beads on stainless today at 205 amps.........no heat at all!!!Glad I made the move!!!
