Here is my long post/story of the Plasma cutter. Thanks to Pedros I now have a fairly new Miller Spectrum 625. I've been waiting and trying to decide on a 375 or 375-X...my decision was made. So, temporarily put it in place while making air and cart arrangements: Then, tap into the overhead air line: Hang the air line using conduit clips and make a air hose hanger from 1.5"x1/8 flat steel: Check the outside roof because you hear a loud cracking noise: (it was the temp. brace for building the larger shop in front of it...not needed any further...haha)Test the new plasma, on several types of material, hooked up to my clean/dry air: Check the roof again...Continued next post...John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Then...as some of you know, I have minimal time and if I can buy it cheaper than build it, I'll do it. Hence, the HF/MZ Convertible Powdercoated Plasma Cut Table/Cart: Notice here, I left out some slats so I can either hang stuff over...or use angle iron for an additional flat working surface (see the small piece of angle?):Now - to remove the convertible top - whooohoo! This allows me to use for other purposes...if so desired. I also made it conveniently the same height as my sheilded welding area: My next goal is to cut out the top shelf and install a chute to catch the slag, sparks and debris. My chute will probably be a new metal trash can.  All my welding stuffed tucked in and at a nice height for easy viewing: Some quickie welds, not wire brushed...after all this is a welding forum: That's it ! WHEW !  Any questions, comments, praises are welcome. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Nice looking table John. Thats a great idea and should do you nicely for your projects. Remember ventilation. That snow is cool to. My father had a big machine shed with a metal roof. We used to see snow sliding off like that allot.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:Yes INDEEDY - cheap yet effective. I ended up getting the blue MIG cart, that red triple shelf cart, a wooden model plane, dust masks and a 2 ft. right angle for $42. I was supposed to get the two shelf cart but they were out, so they gave me the 3 shelf cart as a sub. It was almost $100 worth of stuff but with a $30 gift card and 25% off coupon, it made it worthwhile.edit: Forgot to add that I didn't add the handle (and the middle shelf) on the RED cart, gives a little more space and the cart moves so freely it doesn't really need a handle. I can always add it on after if I have a need for it.Last edited by MicroZone; 03-06-2007 at 09:37 PM.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:John,  I've only been here for a while but you seem to allways come up with somthing that gets me thinking. Thanks, Tom
Reply:Hahhaaa - thanks. I try to be as creative and cost-effective (read: cheap butt) as possible. I hate buying material! Forget about buying Stainless - good lord ! Just the top has over 20 ft. of material in it. I can't begin to think about an entire table.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I too have a passion for the innexpensive. Read cheap ***. I have a friend that got an old metal workbench from where he workds. I'm thinking about using it as a welding table. The only other option is to find a sheet of steel that is free or close to it to use as the table top and use up the angle I have. You know the galvonized angle with holes in it that they use for garage door braces? I've got quite a bit of that. Even though it isn't very strong, I have enough to brace the crap out of it and make it strong enough. In other words, it wouldn't be strong enough to weld one piece at each corner. I'll have to do that and then make gussets and pieces to connect the legs together. Throw enough steel at it and it'll get sturdy. Again, I have enough of it to be able to do that.I do all kinds of cheapo things like that. We should start a thread titled Cheapo Stuff where we put all the elcheapo things we've done and built. Like my torch cooler. I built a torch cooler for about 13 bucks using junk and crap I had laying around the garage. An old 5 gallon bucket, a piece of garden hose, a hand full of hose clamps and voula! A functional torch cooler. I had to by a 6 dollar pump from harbor freight and a few fittings from the hardware and LWS.Wayne
Reply:Jeez you like wood!hope they´re spark safe...if not... I´d at least put my welders in a safe place in case of a fire!but those are some pretty  nice projects man!My Babies: HF Drill pressHF Pipe Bender3   4.5" Black and Decker angle grindersLincoln Electric PROMIG 175that´s it!
Reply:Yes, the inside of my small shop is finished in OSB and the bench is 2x4's and 2x6's. The welding area is covered in 3/16 metal and the remainder of the sparks bounce off the wood. Plus I have a few fire extinguishers on standby. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
