I was looking around online for a good air compressor and I always thought of IR being on of the best names in compressors, but I am having trouble understanding their product line. I have an old Granger catalog that has TS series and T-30 Series air compressors listed, but now all I seem to find online (not that the others aren't there but are far less common) are T-30 air compressors. Unless something has changed TS compressors should be similar in price and offer 5,000 extra hours rated life. I am looking at a 2 stage 5 HP compressor with around 15-20 cfm. So far TS51D5-FP has struck me as the way to go, but I just can't figure out IR anymore. Any info on them is great.
Reply:IR makes a great compressor. If you have a Tractor Supply Company store near by they carry a full line of thier compressors. They would have some that you could compare side by side maybe.I went with a Quincy QT-5 and couldn't be happier. Both Quincy and IR make the best compressor in my mind. Reply:I stopped by Q-air California, a major Quincy distributor, and I think I am sold on a QT-5 with a single phase 230 volt baldor motor on a 80 gallon horizontal tank, they quoted my $1,800 for a QT-5 with a 60 gallon Vert tank. delivered to me and installed (ain't that half the fun of owning something the setup?)
Reply:My Quincy was bought 17 years ago from Harbor Freight when they still offered free shipping.  It was a bugger getting the 80 gallon vertical to the back of my garage.  Thankfully my neighbor had access to a full size pickup with liftgate.  It's a real workhorse...will power my sandblaster at 160psi continuously.  Often overlooked, is that the supply and drain valves are absolutely leak free.  That's a bonus if you're like me and don't use it every day.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
