Just a few pics. This is my first real fab project and it feels pretty good. I'm hooked. Attached Images
Reply:Nice project. What type of tubing did you use to make them out of? Thickness, type steel etc.
Reply:They are 2x2 hot rolled. The main "body" of each is all 1/8" but the legs are 3/16" and the frame plates are 3/16" angle.Last edited by STEELEforREAL; 05-13-2013 at 11:45 AM.
Reply:Those have to weigh a ton!I assume welded to the frame? Is there access to all the body mount bolts/other bolts?

Reply:Looks good for square. Pretty much all I ever build stuff out of and can build out of. I need a pipe bender and a press brake!

Reply:Really should not have welded them to the frame. In the future make them a bolt on setup. Nice project though.
Reply:I am all for attaching to the frame, be it welding or bolting but, all the guys around here say to attach them to the body of the jeep and not the frame. hmmm odd. But, if welded to the frame, there should be provisions for accessing bolts or parts. I would use some kind of quick disconnect tubing like they use on roll cages and frame stiffeners over the engine.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain

Reply:I appreciate everyone's advice as to bolting them to the frame. I will plan to do a bolt on setup next time because I'm sure this is a much better choice in the long run. I definitely gave my bro the option and he assured me that he never planned to take them off. Luckily for him I will always help him if he needs it and if we have to cut them off then so be it. Thanks again. This is exactly the kind of thing I want to learn from by being a part of this forum.

Reply:These are great, I am thowing something out there so please do not take it as criticism. one change I would make is for the piece that attaches to the frame (either bolt-on or weld-on) make the vertical leg longer and put on a decent gusset between that leg and the support, that way a vertical impact (like the front wheel coming off a rock, think high center with force) doesn't bend them right up into the sheetmetal.I will try and draw a pic to show you what I mean (red is the longer vertical leg, green is the gusset), btu I am not a great drawer:Last edited by johnpsz; 05-15-2013 at 02:39 PM.Reason: added pic
