Reply:Hello J440, that should be a fun project and it looks like you're on the right track with your set-up. A number of years ago I did a bike for my son, he was racing at the time and everyone was into "pit bikes". We used a Honda CRF 50 bike for the base platform, installed an 88cc kit on the motor, boxed/plated the frame and did some other modifications to strengthen it. Installed a set of Hanebrink forks on the front end, essentially changed the stock 1 to 1 1/2" of travel to more like 4 1/2" to 5" inches with some damping control as well. I built a slightly longer than stock stainless steel rear swing arm(I'm thinking 2") and utilized a Paoli shock with compression and rebound adjustment. I am pretty sure that the travel on the rear wheel ended up around 6 to 7" or so. He was able to jump this little bugger a good 35 or 40 feet with good control and not cause any damage to the bike. At the time he was about 5'- 5" tall and around 135 lbs. Fun for him to ride and me to watch. I'll see if I can get some pictures and include them for you to look at. I did a similar thing with the swingarm fabrication as far as setting up a fixure to keep things square an parallel and properly lined up while I was fitting it up. Looks real nice, I would be interested to hear if you have of any other modifications that you have done or have planned. Good luck and best regards, AllanLast edited by aevald; 05-15-2013 at 03:25 PM.Reason: add more informationaevald
Reply:I have this little thing all modified out. I cut the engine cases and modified an intake manifold to reverse it around to the back, with a larger 26mm mikuni, bored the cases for a larger cylinder. im running a 60mm bore x 55mm stroke (155cc roughly) roller rockers in the head with oversized valves and ports, manual clutch setup, primary drive gear (removes stock centrifugal clutch), lighted the flywheel 1lb, HD output shaft, added the 4th gear shift drum. it moves pretty good. i modified kx65 forks on it, pressed the steering stem out of the stock triple clamps and bored the kx65 clamp to accept it, along with tapered bearings. also made my own footpeg bracket and doubled up the stock footpegs, with a custom cradle mount.. thats most of it. im working on the rear end now obviously..started the upper shock mount relocation bracket today. really need this to finish the swingarm. Reply:Sounds like a lot of fun, is this one for you? Should have enough umph and from the sound of the suspension it should definitely be a whole lot better than stock. Look forward to more of your build pictures. Best regards, Allanaevald
