here's some pics of my latest project! Decided a while back that I wanted to build an 8x5 tandem axle tipper trailer after getting the axles, hitch and wheels for a great deal! The fabrication has taken me just under 3 days - plenty of brew breaks in between all the welding!  I got all the steel cut to size at the steel stockholders to save time!  Just got to dismantle it and get it up to the galvanisers next week and then wait!Designed to carry 2 metric tons which will more than meet my needs!  Only have a hand hydraulic pump for it at the moment but a 12v dc pump is top of the list come pay day!  the hand pump takes ages!thanks for looking!

Reply:The frame looks a bit light for a dump trailer. Did you design it yourself for get the plans from somewhere? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:I think Thors concern is the weight all piling up at the Hinge making the frame seem lite to the axles.
Reply:Hot dipping?  Did you put vents in all the tubes?
Reply:It's an interesting design. Not sure I follow it entirely. It appears really high due to the hinge design. I'd prefer to see the dump rails sit on the bottom rails rather than the hinge and forward block. It's a large bridge and static your fine but bouncing around on the road and farm will tax it. Normally on a tilt trailer the hinge can be moved forward to just rear of the axles unless your intention was to make a high dump. By moving the hinge you improve the fulcrum and your cylinder won't be required to dead lift the entire load... your load will help the dump. I know your finished but I'd take a look at some trailer designs and make sure your 100% happy with the design before you have it dipped as it's a lot easier to make changes now. I do like that your having it dipped, it will be very nice and last a long time. I look forward to seeing it completed. Nice drop side design also.

Reply:Originally Posted by forhireIt's much more clear now... especially the with the bump stops. Most of the tandom dump trailers we see over here have the box sitting between the wheels so the over wheel box just looked tall. Looking at the web site it appears they have some ramps that slide under the box also?
Reply:Got the trailer all built up with axles and hydraulics. Tip angle is nearer 55* than my earlier estimate of 75*. This will still work fine! Floor and galv sheet to be fitted and its done! Really pleased with how it has turned out.  It will be real handy for lots of future jobs and save a ton of time shovelling stuff from our old trailer!

Reply:Looks nice. I was wondering about the four lug wheels and tires. That seems really lightweight.

Reply:Originally Posted by gav0994the wheels and tyres are rated to 900Kg (approx 1900lbs) each, so in theory I could have a trailer rated at 3600Kg (apprx8000lbs) if I wanted to, but that would be illegal here in the UK.  Max trailer of this type is 3500Kg, then you need air or hydraulic brakes fitted.
Reply:It looks great. The hot dip really gives it a finished look. It should last a long time. Congratulations!
