Just wanting some opinions from yall! I've only been welding for 4 months. Trying to be the best I can sp I can run pipeline. Anyhow be honest! These are 7018 beads. This is the front and back of the plate. Thanks!!! Attached ImagesLife is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. -Confucius

Reply:Not bad, but some look like they were done by a drunken sailor. You need to work on your aim and consistency a bit more. I'd like to see the beads straighter and more consistent if you were doing those for me at the tech school. If need be use a chalk to draw a straight line to follow.I can't tell completely with those, but I assume they are supposed to be single beads stacked right next to each other. Next step would be to over lap the beads by 50%. After students can reasonably consistently make decent straight beads, we move them on to overlapping joints in preparation eventually for moving to lap joints. Overlapping beads are also what is used when you do fills on beveled joints, so this step isn't just make work. I see a lot of guys want to skip this step, then wonder later on why they are having so many issues when they have to do multiple passes on bevels and fillets..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:BTW TexasAngler, you need to start making fillets etc.  It's hard to judge anything with flat stringersStringers suck, they only give you half a chance to really learn to weld. You need to pile metal in a corner to see how the puddle works"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Looks like you're going to fast also. N for 7018 I'd go with Excalibur rods
Reply:What position are these? Flat? Try slowing down and maybe turning up the amps. If you wanna go into pipelining,  you should work on your tie-ins. Be sure to space the tie-ins about 1 inch.  Apart on the beads next to each other.
