Hello All. A little help needed. I need to find an electric burr machine that takes 1/4" shank. I can use the same type tooling for metal finishing as I would with air tools. the Dremel type I don't think would handle a stainless steel hand rail job. some is tubing, some is sheet metal rails on top of glass. I need to blend the welds . I have used them in past in a shop I worked at but can't seem to find one. Anyone use one? have a name brand so I can order one. I need a good one. [email protected]
Reply:Hey Joe,Here's a unit that may fit your needs. Your best type of search would be for an "Electric Die Grinder" on Google. I just happened to spot this one:http://cgi.ebay.com/ELECTRIC-DIE-GRI...QQcmdZViewItemDennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Hey again Joe,Here's a Milwaukee.... looks like a good one also....   Dennyhttp://cgi.ebay.com/MILWAUKEE-5194-4...QQcmdZViewItemComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:The first one on Ebay is the same one that Harbor Fright sell about the same price and without postage charge.
Reply:We do stainless railing projects all the time. HF die grinders (thats what they call these things) would last about 5 minutes around here.I buy either the Milwaukee-[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Milwaukee-5192-4-5-High-Speed-Grinder/dp/B00018AAWO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1203700831&sr=1-2[/ame]Or the Bosch-http://bosch.cpotools.com/grinders_a...ders/1215.htmlEither one still only lasts 2 or 3 years before puking- the side loads on a long skinny die grinder are quite large- especially with a big carbide burr grinding stainless- and they just plain dont last forever. My tool repair guy says the one they like is this Makita- and he has seen a LOT  of grinders-http://www.cpomakita.com/grinders/di...s/gd0800c.htmlYou will notice that none of these grinders is cheap. $200 and up. Partly its paying for a better tool, and partly its just that they dont sell anywhere as many of them as they do angle grinders- Makita alone probably sells 100 4 1/2" angle grinders for each die grinder sold. The cheap ones dont last. The expensive ones last longer, but still wear out. No good answer, but its sometimes a very necessary tool.

Reply:Thanks all. I have a Bosch 1210 die grinder. I need something almost air tool size. smaller than the Bosch. The one I remember using fit in my hand like the military d cell flashlights and abought half the size. I will keep searching. maybe be able to tool up for the future.
