I am in the process of ordering an Everlast SuperCut 50p unit and need ideas. Please post your projects or ideas you have been thinking about doing.Last edited by SWells; 01-28-2013 at 11:19 PM.Reason: typo in title
Reply:Not to hijack a thread, but if some of you could also show some templates and how you use them, I think it would help this thread.
Reply:that is a good idea with templates. I could print then do my best at copying over and freehand.
Reply:I don't have any specific projects to add but I would like to add some advice and tips.Don't dry fire your torch. Wear gloves and eye protection. Keep in mind that the torch does what ever you do, if you twitch, it will twitch. I have a Hypertherm and it only cuts about the width of a pencil line. I use a guide for straight cuts, I have a piece of 1/4" rod that I bend up for a jig to do radius' and sweeping curves. Keep the room well ventilated too, the stuff is not good for you to breath. I find the slag comes off easier if it cools first.I would like to add that I use mine all the time. I don't know how I ever got along with out one.
Reply:Plasma Project Post:A set of clamp on tractor bucket forks. The forks slip into the clamp assembly and pin in place. You can remove the 2" x 2" forks and use the clamp assembly with a standard 2" hitch and ball to move trailers around. The forks have been tested to safely lift and move up to 800 lbs. All of the 3/8" clamp components were cut with a Hypertherm Powermax85 on a PlasmaCam cnc machine, all of the square tubing pieces were cut to length and coped with a Powermax30 hand torch.Jim Colt Attached ImagesLast edited by jimcolt; 01-27-2013 at 08:46 AM.
Reply:while im attending school I do alot of plasma cutting on the side to make a little extra cash. People send me designs and I can blow them up in my projector and just trace onto metal and cut them out. All was done with a miller spectum 375 x-treme. Attached Images
Reply:Mike, that is a great tip on the use of the projector.  I do the same thing with my students at school for artwork.  We steal pictures off the web and blow them up and use them for contest projects.  With the plasma cutouts, you would have to remember to leave places of connections so your picture stays.Last edited by Crabo; 01-27-2013 at 02:18 PM.
Reply:yeah exactly. I find thats the hardest part sometimes. Takes a bit of planning before hand for sure. This was prob one of the more complicated ones. Just because I made it rather small everything was harder to keep pieces together. Just made it into a little lamp with a couple LED strips on the back in the inside. Other lamp was just one i made for a valentines day present. Pretty simple to put together and turned out pretty nice. Attached Images

Reply:yepp, all my stuff is done just by following marker lines. all free hand.
Reply:you do good work! How much do you get for these and what guage steel do you use?
Reply:ha thanks. For stuff like the skull I would get like $150 and its roughly 3x2. The Harley sign I get $200 for that and its also roughly 3x2. Pin-up girl I cant sell as thats the logo for the roller derby team where I live. Just made that one for show. I cut most out of 16 guage which runs at about $60 for a 4x8 sheet. So it actually works to be a pretty ncie profit lol. I could fit 4 harleys on one sheet so I could turn $60 worth of metal to $800 in my pocket  cant argue with that.
Reply:Here's a few, all freehand. This one I used the assembly instruction for my sons balsa wood model.TemplateMy Photos on Flickr
Reply:Heres a few I have done. All done freehand with an esab. If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
Reply:These are all very nice. I am really excited to be getting a plasma cutter soon. I hope to sell some harley and other designs at abate
Reply:@Mike Have you ever first cut in to a thicker peice of steel and used it for a master copy? That way you could lay that over your thinner stuff and drag the torch through and knock them out a bit faster. Just a thought, not sure how well it would work.

Reply:Shelves for sunglasses / safety glasses.  Cut as a single piece and bent (two triangle sides come in and shelf surface comes up).  Initially, I just put some pieces of aluminum tape to hold the bottom to the sides, but I've been going back and replacing the tape with tack welds when I have the TIG on and remember to do it.  You could always modify the dimensions to fit a stack of post-it notes, a tape measure, can of beer, etc.  One improvement I would make is a small lip on the front to make sure nothing slides off accidentally. Reply:I got my supertcut 50p odered, cant wait
Reply:Very impressive.  I always like the free hand cut ones instead of CNC.  Free hand is a challenge.  I've done just a few but not to your standards.  Thanks, man.(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:I have an exhaust flange that I need to reproduce on a regular basis for turbo pipes I modify. I’d rather have a CNC table, but since I don’t I whipped together this little gem so I can make them consistent, one after another. I slide a flat bar of 3/8" x 4" through it (4th pic) and run the plasma torch around the perimeter of the template. I first cut the round center hole using a template that rests on the flange template and align with three 1/4" pins. Without moving the flat bar I take off the center-hole template and run the torch a second time around the flange perimeter template. It took a little "trial and error" to get the templates right, so I used the drops of my "errors" to build the frame that holds the final templates. As mentioned earlier, if you twitch it shows up in your cut and also if you "tilt" the torch the angle shows up; especially in thicker material. I made an adapter that fits snug onto the insulator of the torch so I can "ride the perimeter" of the template and maintain good perpendicular angle against the work so I get a straight cut all the way around. In the last pic, the flange on the left is the original “donut style” that gets replaced by the flange on the right. The new flange in the pic is just a practice drop from 16ga. Attached Images
Reply:Last minute decorating idea from the wife for Christmas decoration. Angle for frame - from 1- 1/2" bed frame stock. Front and back sheet - 12 gauge I had sitting here. Interior painted Rustoelum #7724 Sail Blue. Front face is gloss white. Lights are double run of blue colored globe/faceted LED from Menards. The lights are attached with zip ties around the interior perimiter. Font printed out and traced to sheet/plasma cut. Back panel stiched on. Fromt panel attached with 1/4" - 20 SS SHCS. Legs are rebar and pipe combination so elevation could be adjusted. Legs are welded to to shaft collars to adjust base width for stability.Wife went to pick it up and grunted from it's weight.  "Ya, but if some wants to abscond with it, they'll work at it", I replied. As soon as it was placed, it started to snow (streaks in pic). From street elevation and distance the lettering looks an even dark blue. It's not really finished yet, it's a prototype. I still have to paint the back exterior (in primer). Rework the legs. Rework the wiring so it doesn't show and get a ground connection incorporated into the wiring as the unit is all steel.  BUT, it looked good from the street! Esab Powercut 875. Airco Heliwelder (Miller 300AB/P). Milwaukee band saw and 4-1/2" grinder. Wilton drill press. DeWalt cordless drill (for taping threads). Attached Images

Reply:The squirrel was made for practice, then turned into a project, so with the help of another member from weldingweb (Renagade), here is the finished product.  The squirrel has a bearring that allows him to spin in the wind, and a couple of hooks for flowers to hang from.  It now sits in my grandmas back yard for a property marker.
