Hello all, I have a Lincoln SP175 Plus with gas, and have a project truck i'm working on in the shop, which I've converted the flatbed into a dump box and now have 12ga moulded sides bent up that are 10' long X 2' high..I'm installing a 2"X6" structural post at the back end to give it strength, but wonder the best way to go about getting it tacked in place and also the proper procedure of how to lay my beads for a solid weld for the finished job without it warping on me....With the moulded sheet, I can only weld on the outside, because I have a flat sheet to weld on the inside so I have a nice flat surface for the loads inside to slide out...and this is where i'm confused is how to weld on one side of these sheets without them warping on me...It'll be A lot of jumping up inside the box to do the inside and then jump down and do a bit on the outside, but is there any time when I can just start welding from one place and keep going, or whats the best thing for me to do...this will be my work truck and I do not want to mess it up at this point...i'd appreciate hearing about the right way to go about doing this...Thank you in advance..ErnieLast edited by Ernie R; 03-01-2013 at 12:26 PM.

Reply:Lighten up, Ernie.  You expect paid experts to be standing by?  I would imagine that many are tired from their work week and are currently engaged with a "honey-do" list or raising their children.  Don't be hasty."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Back stepping short welds, and skipping around a lot is your friend. And if you can use a copper or aluminum heat sink on the backside is a big help. Even a wet rag can help.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:What CEP said, but still difficult, even with dogs and hold downs. I always fight with it, even if minimal it still always fights you. I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:I will admit, poor writing style turned me away from trying to figure out what you were looking for.Short bullet statements that have clear questions are more often answered.I agree with: don't camp out in one place, make shorter welds and move around.Dave J.Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 03-02-2013 at 05:56 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Consider you may and should jump in and out of your truck if you want to minimize warping. A pain I know.
