Well, I guess it sorta doesThe frame is made of 3/16 channel, and 11ga tubing, so it was nice to get back to some stick welding.  At least I'm a little more proficient at stick than wireI prefer to do all out-of-position in spite of the fact that this thing can be easily placed in a better position to weld.  It allows me to keep in practice, something I've always needed more of.Laying on the ground on your side makes for nice bracing for your rod arm, and allows you to do a decent job uphill. But, either an age thing, or a skill thing...........I have a hard time doing a good job when I'm just standing with no bracing for either my arm or body.  It made for a not so hot weld for my taste.  So I cheated, and clamped a brace to stiffen up the old creaky bodThe re-done bead was more to my liking.I really feel that whether you've been doing this for a million years, or just learning, it doesn't hurt to give yourself all the breaks you can in order to do a decent job.Anyhow.............3/32 Excalibur was used for all the frame welds.  Flat, and overhead, welds were run at 85amps.  Uphill welds were run at 75amps.For uphill, and overhead, I prefer my old style non auto darkening hood with a gold #10 filter.  You haven't seen a puddle as good as one viewed with the gold filterProbably finish it up today after I get the stupid cows back in the pasture.  Despite all the recent rain they've eaten it down, and have broken into the yard  Pen them up, put out some hay, and get back to it later in the day."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I like your crutch er I mean "brace" Sam.  A simple but very helpful idea. I will keep it in mind.  Ive tried to pivot my elbows against my ribs to stay steady and it works if you dont have to use a filler rod but, your crutch looks good.BTW, it looks like a clothing rack for dwarfs or children.

Reply:Its a rack to hang pieces of your vise from while you clean it up an paint it? Poor sad vice sitting up there all alone. Out in the rain and cold with nobody loving him.  He needs to retire and move  To fl. He can hang out in my warm shop with my 70 year old clevland and talk about The old days.
Reply:It goes to the "paint shop" todayMainly to solve a storage problem.  I have quite a bit of money sitting on the ground under the stock rack.  Cutoffs etc.  Been meaning to do this for years, and finally had some down time to get it done.I figure it's rated at about 300lbs per shelf, which should hold all the crap laying around and then some.  The expanded metal should drain nice, and it's lightweight.  As usual I like to mount this stuff on treated lumber runners to keep the steel out of contact with the ground.Because K'kins has made the place look so nice, THIS WILL BE PAINTED  Getting so you can't even pee off the porch anymoreAND YA CERTAINLY CAN'T CRAP IN THE YARD!!  A little present from the critters when they got up in the yard a couple of days back  Guess who gets to clean it up  The lengths we go to for luv"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:A few of my cows got out over the winter and dropped some fertilizer bombs in a neighbor's yard. He didn't complain too much, and I never cleaned them up. Just let nature take its course. Reply:You made it too small. The more space you have, the more scraps you will collect."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Sam you crack me up!!!!! Nice idea......my stupid phone doesn't take good pixs cuz the welding splatter from carrying it in my pocket, otherwise I would take a pix of the twinkie rack I found in the garbage on the other side of the state (could be a collectors item in 100 years).....proudly came home with it, and put my scraps on it.  My wife thinks I am nutz for picking up this "stuff".
