This is the project that got me started welding, but never got finished, until today. Funny how that works! I made this weight tree to hold my Olympic weights. It needed to fit in a narrow space; being able to pull the weights I use most often from the front was a design element I wanted. Those little magnets are a real life saver when working alone! Turned out really nice, and made for a nice place to store all my Oly plates (far better then the imported junk currently available). -Time to go Clean and Snatch! . Reply:Not sure the pair of wheels will help much, with all that weight, but I like your design. Well done. A rack for my free weights would be handy.
Reply:Thanks. I am going to use your design. Reply:Thanks everyone!Ezduzit,You're right brother, the wheels are of NO value when the weight tree is loaded, they are only there so I can move this heavy beast around (when its empty) and into the spot where it will remain for a long time.TJS,The square tube is: 3” x 3” x 1/8” (.125”) One cut at 51 inches, the other at 70 inches. The angled cuts on the 70” slanted square tube upright is 10.62 degrees (9/16”), same with one end of the 13” horizontal square tube support. The base pieces are cut at 35” (center) x 37” (back), and 27” (front). The round Olympic plate holders (8) are: 1.5” Schedule 80 pipe (1.90 OD x .200 wall). The longest one being 24.5” from end to end (keep in mind it goes through the 3” square tube and protrudes ½” out the back side (adds strength). –Used a fancy mag drill. The round Olympic bar holder (4) are: 2” schedule 40 pipe (OD: 2.38; ID: 2.07).Before welding, double check your plate support tube placement by laying out the Olympic plates you will be using. All the round tube was TIG welded using a Miller Dynasty 350, and the square tube was MIG welded using a Lincoln Electric Power MIG 180 and 256. Reply:It looks good and well made. I am sure that it is sturdy enough to hold those heavy weights and are great to organize them. Great job!
Reply:Nice ! You even have room for more weights. Iron weights are too heavy. I prefer to pump aluminium .
