I am starting a Tig/Wire feed welder class in several weeks. Cover Tig and Mig welding. The director of the program waived the pre-requisites because of my past welding experience. All in all the course will run me about $500. Seven weeks......two 4 hour classes a week!
Reply:I'm in an 8 week class, 1 day a week for 6 1/2 hours per day. $210Includes all consumables except tungstens.

Reply:$150 per credit hour. The nice thing is my college lets you come in and take classes you aren't signed up for without getting credit if you are signed up for other welding classes...i.e., I'm signed up for 3 nights a week but come in for forth night for extra practice. For this semester for 3 classes I paid $1100 total, that includes an "Intro to welding", "Gas and Arc Welding 1" and "Blueprint Reading for Welders 1". The nice thing is I'm able to pay out of pocket for it and still go to my normal fulltime job. I'd love to take something like the Lincoln 16 week course for $5k but that's 4 months. I have to work and pay the bills so I can't take time off and go to a comprehensive, compressed course.

Reply:I paid around $17,000 for a 900 hour program with tools and consumables included. I would say it was worth it for the most part. I would not be as well off as I am now in technique and weld quality if I would not have went through the program.

Reply:Where I go it costs about $350 a class. A class is two days a week for four hours for four months. To get the structural welder cert it takes four classes and the combo welder cert is eight classes. Way cheaper than the $11000 it costs for tulsa welding school or the $14000 for hobart school.
Reply:... It costs a lot more than 11k at Tulsa welding school now. I went in 2004 and it was around 10,000. Last I heard from someone going (about a year ago) it was about 18,000!!! That's ridiculous. I can't believe I paid as much as I did, but I cant complain. I still learned on the jobs I worked, but I think I could get a job just about anywhere now. (No thanks to TWS).Lincoln Idealarc Tig 300/300, Lincoln ranger 8, Lincoln LN-25, Miller Sidekick (keeps rockin!), Oxy/Acy torch, Miller XMT-304 with a Miller 60 series wire feeder and high freq. box, Profax positioner 8" chuck, Aaronson 3500# positioner 15" chuck
