I purchased a simple three speed, 14" wood cutting bandsaw from Harbor Freight for under $300. A few years back I bought a half dozen DC Tread Mill motors off the internet for $29 each. I really wanted a metal cutting bandsaw for aluminum and mild steel. This conversion with high quality metal cutting blades will easily cut steel plate to 3/16 dry and larger if I use my "mist" cooler. It ripps through 1/2 Aluminum with a skip tooth blade like a hot knife through butter!Full write-up here............Roy BDartmouth, Mahttp://www.rvbprecision.comMM 185 MIGDiversion 165Purox W200 O/AGrizzly 9957 MillGrizzly 4030 Metal Band SawGrizzly 1050 Knife Belt SanderJet 1236 Metal LatheCM 14" Metal Band SawTP Blast Cabinet
Reply:Good job. I adapted a slightly different tread mill motor to a grizzly 7X10 lathe because the chinese DC motors and boards are total crap.
Reply:Good job! I see a lot of people doing it these days. Here's mine.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=19482 |
