I am still trying to figure out the dial choices on the new miller trailblazer 275. When hooking up the older S-32P suitcase feeder to it, the trailblazer has a dedicated VS wire feeder switch. It also has a seperate - terminal for wire feeders.  So my question is: Do I still switch polarity at the cables when choosing between FCAW and GMAW?  Or does the panel switch do it for me?  The manual is not clear on it. According to a voltmeter it appears I have to. I assume I want the S-32P on + for MIG and - for flux core with the feeder in CV mode.
Reply:Hook up to the terminal for wire feeder and use the polarity selector on the machine to set the polarity
Reply:On the new 275 there is no polarity switch, that's what confused me. There is a wire feed switch for a remote (14 pin) feeder and a switch for a voltage sensing feeder like mine. It has the choice of hard wire or flux core. I didn't know if the switch automatically changed the machine, or I have to manually switch leads which is what I suspect. The manual on the S-32P or the trailblazer don't mention polarity but I assume it needs to be changed between the 2 processes.
Reply:Here is a pic of the panel Attached Images

Reply:Yes it does appear that you will have to switch the leads. Seems like a step backwards, looks like the selector just changes the engine performance for the different processes.
Reply:To be sure, I would call Miller. They're very friendly and maybe they'll add this info to future manuals."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Yeah, I think I'll call.  I finally found a page in the manual that say's I have to switch the cables for DC TIG, - polarity, so I assume it's going to be the same for flux core.  90% of the manual is safety warnings, so it's not easy to find what you need!  Thanks!
Reply:Yeah, no doubt on the safety $hit. It's to the point that it's now counter productive. So much stupid BS in there, nobody will read it. I think we should just lighten the gene pool by removing all labels!Anyway, if it says you have to switch cables for TIG, then I'm sure you would do the same for MIG/FCAW."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:The other day when I was running my 325, I saw no differance in the "flux core" and "solid" mig selections.Question: why did you elect the 275 over the 325?

Reply:My main use for it was the aux output for the backup generator for a commercial store. The 325 and 275 had the same output for that. I already have a bobcat with an 8000 watt generator but they added on to the store since then. I opted for the trailblazer because of the better arc with the suitcase and spool gun. I rarely need more than 275 amps of welding current, although I have never used an arc air torch yet.
Reply:Yes you have to switch the polarity at the cables The control panel (if it's like my TB302 ) switches between VS and RCI run a 12 RC suitcase You switch it to CV RC mode and it runs off the suitcase control panel through the remote cableThe other is for running a CV VS suitcase no remote cablesetting varies with the voltage sensor on the welderBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:I believe its the same as the 302.  Have you noticed a welding difference between the RC and VS?  Miller say's no, some members say there is quite a difference.
Reply:My only experience with VS units was a guys LN-25  Which worked great but having to crawl in and out of the scrapers that we were working on to get the adjustments just right for what we were doing was a PITA So when i bought my current setup i went with the 12 RC  But you have to have the control cable and the length of the cable you can use is limited and the VS has no limitationsI just am lazy and hate to keep going back to my welder to do adjustments Backed my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:I'm wireless too.....I just yell "TURN IT DOWN"
Reply:Dont read the manual or anything.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:I read it. 90% of it On safety now. Not a word on polarity, it just says to choose wire or flux core, VS or RC. I wouldn't of asked. From the manual it almost seems to suggest just switching the dial. I originally wondered if the machine changed it internally. It has two - hookups, unlike the older machines, one for stick and one for the rest. Obviously from the answers and voltmeter check it doesn't.
Reply:I have a 12rc and a thermal arc hefty II, I'm thinking about selling my 12rc and buying a wireless remote. What's nice about the tb 325, when I hoop up the sensing cable on the vs feeder, the machine revs up for a few seconds, the back down. Unlike the bobcat I use at work that's stays revved up.i love "auto speed"
Reply:My other machine is the bobcat 225NT.  The only reason I upgraded was the buisness's store doubled. A power failure would cost over $5000 in loss of ice cream alone.  So I get the upgraded welder part.  We lose power only 3 or 4 times a year, but we do have to be ready for it. The nice thing about the newer model is hopefully I can run my econotig and plasma off it.  The 8000 watt Bobcat wouldn't cut it there. The two of them run the essential circuits in the store fine.  I have yet to hook up the other welders to the aux power.
Reply:I did post years ago about hooking up the S-32P to the bobcat, and remember problems dialing it in.  Everyone said the trailblazer would have a much better arc, expecially on hard wire.  I havent tried that yet. I will post when I get there!
Reply:Before anyone buys a wireless remote. Check the compatibly chart for your welder and see if it will work. The wireless remotes do not work on all miller welders.
Reply:Page 25.....http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o249795c_mil.pdfI forgot how to change this.
Reply:It' s the same manual, you're right. I just didn't see FCAW and was trying to confirm it.Originally Posted by blackbartIt' s the same manual, you're right. I just didn't see FCAW and was trying to confirm it.
