Went to Monhans tx (west of Odessa) to repair this catwalk. The spindle on the wheel broke and the machine fell over on to the catwalk.Repair pics in next post
Reply:I know the welds look cold in the second pic.I was welding with a bobcat 225 and it was maxed out.The pic with gusset, I preheated before I welded. The bottom step was replaced with new grating and angle was put underneath the bottom and second stepsEquipment:Bobcat 225 maxed on wireWc115Spoolmatic 30a.035 wireA torchSpectrum 875Grinder

Reply:Great looking repair. Did some similar repairs on some dock ramps damaged in a storm using my Miller 140 w/spoolmate a few years back. Lucky nothing over 3/16. Welding in the wind sucked though. Again, nice repair. Reply:nice repair job good weld.  the first weld didn't fail but the aluminum did  and looks like your weld bead wont break either. the aluminum will rip again before your weld bead will fail.
Reply:Nice repair indeed. What type of wire did you run?And while we are on the subject, does this seem like a good deal on alum grating for $140 shipped: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-Ext...item27d38ae441
Reply:The service truck is not mine. It's company provided, the mechanic who drives it, took me to fix this machine.(I'm not allowed to drive a company vehicle any more)The wire was .035 5356 aluminum. We paid $300 for 6' of grating 10" wire x 1.5" tall. So yes that is a good deal.Had to drive 13.5 hours round trip , job took 4 hours.

Reply:You get all the fun jobs......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:At the end/top of the cat walk is a "bridge" that swings down to access the top of what ever your loading....5 times now on 3 different machines, they left the "bridge" down and had the trucks pull away "rrrriiiiippppp"Usually it pulls them way out square and rips the hinge connection off. They take about 3 hours to rebuildThe good thing abut the bridge is, they are removable, so they come to the shop for repair. The third one I rebuilt (abut a year ago) , the yard hands in elk city Oklahoma said the bridge disappeared one night. So the company bought a new bridge ($1200) and sent me to install it, while I was there I was in the woods taking a leak and I found the pieces of the bridge, so I gathered them all up and carried them back with me, that one took about 6 hours to rebuild (this is one of the many reasons my bosses fought for my job from my second accident a few weeks ago)I'll get some pictures Monday (if I remember) of the bridge we now have in stock.I apologize for the rambling and bad grammar (in high school, English was never my strong subject, math and computers were)
