I've been doing a bit of mitering lately, something I religiously stay away fromThe setup with the chopsaw is a PITA.Anyhow, I DISCOVERED SOMETHING  Well, at least it was a newbie for meI've always cut a miter on one end of the piece, then reset the stupid saw for the reverse cuts.  DUMB  I always did this because of the location of the fence on the saw, it isn't full length, you can only clamp off on one side of the blade.  So you can't just flip the piece over for the reverse cut because ya got nothing to clamp to if the piece if fed in from the other side of the saw.For once, my little noodle was banging on all four cylindersI do the setup.  I'm anal, and don't trust the markings on the fence, I use a good measuring device, and line up the line with the blade.  The line is only for alignment, it's not a cut line on the tubingI do my regular cuts, clamped to the fence. Then grab a piece of square tubing larger in width than the angle I'm cutting, and use it as a jig.  I don't cut the tubing, just use it for support in order to be able to clamp the whole thing to the fence. You just have to flip the piece, and cut it.  The waste is eliminated, and the time saving is enormous if you have to do a bunch of these.  And you only have to fiddle with the saw once to set it up.Told ya it was a useless tip  Another innovation from the Mental Midgets at Uranis Inc. Reply:You think you were doing it dumb? For years I turned the chop saw upside down and clamped it to the bottom of the bench to do the other cut. That's an older makita saw better than 30 years old I'm guessing - - yes? Square head is mitutoyo - - yes?.Hey~!! It's a hobby. It's not supposed to make sense~!!
Reply:I'm trying to figure out how a center finder is better than a regular combination square in this situation lol
Reply:I guess you do things and take them for granted,Had I known we had this problem, I would have told you the solution years ago.I cut a lot of 1.5" x 1/8 angle and I keep a 2' piece of 1.5" square under the table just for this reason.I LOLed about clamping the saw to the bottom of the table
Reply:I think it was WhyRoy that gave me the idea to always keep the fence on zero and then make a fixture(s) for the different angles that you do. Just plop it an place and your angle is set. I only ever do 45's so I only have the one.
