Reply:I do run dc positive with little ocelation... It kinda runs like jet rod... Horizontal and flat nice bead pinholes...  Uphill well not very purty...overhead its ok... sometimes it globs up and slag trapped...
Reply:What rod are you using? I have used lots of 309 ac/dc rod. Keep a tight arc and move slow. Produces very nice welds. A pleasure to use.
Reply:Pinholes in stainless stick means your rods are wet. Put one in the holder and ground it out for a second or two to steam the moisture out. You'll see a big puff of steam when it gets hot enough. Set it aside to cool, then do the rest of them.
Reply:In addition to moisture, pinholes can be caused by holding too long of an arc. Like Franknsense said, keep it short. 3xx-17 rods can be dragged. If possible, get a fresh can from a reputable mfr.- Lincoln, ESAB, McKay, Sandvik. Then you'll know if it's you or the rods. JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I'm sure most of it me but I did try grounding them out looked likeboiling water coming out of the rod it helped alot thank you
Reply:Here is a link that explains the three different flux coatings on stainless electrodes http://www.esabna.com/EUWeb/FM_handbook/577fm2_1.htm . What helped me the most though is using an Athermal gold over green filter plate. It really helps seeing  the difference between the puddle  and the slag. You may have noticed there are no videos of anyone running E308 stainless vertical-up.
