Welding blanket too stiff.

I have a new yellowish tan welding blanket that comes folded flat like a tarp(but significantly thicker).  I'd like to start using it but it's really stiff and would be hard to get to conform or to wrap a preheated cast aluminum piece I'd like to start welding on.  Any ideas on softening it some without losing too much of it's fire retardant abilities?Thanks,T

Reply:Some are made for higher temperatures like oxy/acet cutting, whilst the lower temperature range ones are made for general weld spatter, make sure you have the correct one for the job your doing, There are different makes and finishes out there, try looking at others

Reply:Put them all in a big pile, strip down to your shorts, and roll around in them for a while, that should soften 'em up!

Reply:Roll it up and beat it against a post, stump, truck bumper or some such like.
