I'm looking to pick up a plasma cutter for my personal use. We have a Hypertherm Powermax 1000 at work and I've been very pleased with it. Thinking about picking one up for myself. Anyone have any suggestions otherwise?Miller Syncrowave 180SDMillermatic 175
Reply:What do yo cut?I have a 1000 and am also very happy with it's performance. The only other unit I have considered was a 30 just since it is so small, but 1/2 the capacity of the 1000.Me!
Reply:Lately, for my personal use I've had a healthy diet of 1/2". My band saw takes too long and my metal chop saw suffers from pieces that are too big. I'm also been cutting slots and such and a plasma cutter would make that a breeze. I've been considering one for my personal use for some time. The 600 cuts half inch, but I can justify the 1000 for the price jump and extra capacity.Miller Syncrowave 180SDMillermatic 175
Reply:Biggest thing with a plasma, is look around, what do your local welding supply stores support????  Then, start looking at specific features,,,,,    I happened to buy a Thermal Dynamics, primarily because it had consumables I could get immediately, and also because of the "twist-lock" gun connection ....   Being mostly portable, that was an important feature, maybe others offer that today, I don't know, but at the time TD was the only one ....
Reply:At work their supplier gave us a Powermax 1000 to test, we were satisfied and bought one a week later.I originally wanted a Miller (I'm a blue guy) plasma cutter but my personal supplier recommended hypertherm I believe at the original time of me asking.Just wanna make sure I'm putting my throwing my money at the right product. I don't doubt they're all good. As I said my experience with the powermax has been pleasant.Miller Syncrowave 180SDMillermatic 175
Reply:I have both a Hypertherm Powermax 30 and a Powermax 1250, and have been completely happy with both, the service, support and the easy availablity of consumables, made Hypertherm an obvious choice.Jack
Reply:platypus20, I work in Hypertherm's technical service dept.Just wanted to thank you for the good words.  It's always rewarding to help people, whether they have difficulties or if they just want a part number or spec.  We're always here and you get a real human everytime :-)

Reply:Are you looking to cut 2" with a hand torch or cnc control? What kind of material? If you are cutting only steel....you can edge start with a 200 Amp air or oxygen plasma (Hypertherm Max200, or Hypertherm HT2000 for longest consumable life). There is no such thing as low frequency start....Plasma systems either use high frequency (or capacitive discharge which creates the same high voltage spark) or they use a moving electrode (also known as blowback or solenoid start). All plasma systems over about 15 years old use high frequency start......many small (under 100 Amp) air plasmas today use the blowback or non high frequency start. All of hypertherm's systems that are designed for high duty cycle industrial use use high frequency...and there are over 100,000 of these types of systems mounted on cnc cutting machines. Some of the newer, entry level, hobby class cutting machines that use a standard PC as the cnc control cannot work with high frequency start plasma.Jim
Reply:2 inch material freehand... cnc is norm plate size for shipyard... I am thinking of 2 unit, smaller and larger unit... for now a small unit for the shop to try and do stuff with it before I change completely to plasma operation for all cutting...Oxy/Acetylene is great but it will save me grinding and other process which I need for my fabshop. I need to cut fast and clean.Unit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
Reply:I have after lookin in hypertherm website send an email to S'pore office, but find it hard to download the Max200 or HT2000 PDF... redirected to another page which ask me to contact webmaster.Unit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
Reply:Really all depends on who does warranty for the brands in question that is close to your location. If you have to send your machine far far away, and don't see it back for a month, your kinda hooped.Because I do T-dyne warranty, your up and running within 2 days, same with Miller & Lincoln.
