What is this thing? Anyone actually try one of these? (Color me skeptical)http://www.multiplaz.com/about"Multiplaz is the only company worldwide that holds a Patent for this unique welding technology by use of a water-alcohol solution instead of shielding gas. It is the first company to utilize ordinary tap water for heating materials by turning the water into plasma 14400°F (8000°C).Worldwide, Multiplaz 3500 is the only welder with such a broad range of applications.Multiplaz 3500 can weld, solder, braze, harden, and cleanse metals including steel, aluminum, copper, cast iron, bronze and other metals.Multiplaz 3500 can cut any metal, including high-alloy and stainless steel that can not be cut with oxygen cutting. Cutting ceramic tiles, quartz glass, bricks, concrete and other inflammable materials is another unique feature of the Multiplaz 3500.Multiplaz 3500 can replace a variety of different tools: welding machine, gas torch, plazma cutter, nibble shears and scissors, industrial drying fan, electric jig saw, blow lamp, inverter welder… just to name a few."Motorboating...in the Cleavage of the Tetons
Reply:Do a search of the site, it's been discussed several times. In a nutshell:Last edited by Kelvin; 05-25-2013 at 12:17 PM.
Reply:It ranks right up there with the "300 MPG" water vapor induction system for you car (in regards to how fast it transfers money from your pocket to theirs).
Reply:Twenty years ago I did some welding with a aqua torch and let me tell you that thing really got hot. It used distilled water and I think hydrogen peroxide for fuel. It was along time ago and I'm not sure if it was hydrogen peroxide but it melted steel very well.

Reply:PM member Puddytat.    He will be happy to talk your ear off about it being the greatest thing since sliced bread.    Caution, "there's a sucker born every minute". Plasma welding is not new and many companies make them.   Do a search for "multiplaz".   A couple of us went to their corporate office and spent a few hrs demoing the machine.     For a few hundred bucks it would be a worthwhile machine, for $2000, just bend over and grab your ankles now.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:I was at Cabin fever model engineering expo a few years back , they were there demoing that machine , They were or giving  a big discount if you bought then and there , I was not impressed with the quality of the cuts or the welds , or the price  . Like the other guys said a novelty.
Reply:LOL........you guys make me laugh.....a whole day at a demo and you're self opinionated experts.....if you want heat it's got more heat than anything you can throw at it so saying it doesn't put out the same amount of heat "they" claim for it is ludicrous.I've risen to the bait, and bitten on it.....this is definitely my last post on this subject.....EVER.Ian.

Reply:BTW fellas.......what is the biggest Tig torch currently being used....that you can get without applying for a government certificate in case it interferes with something going on in area 51 or so?Been having some brain movements and thought that if you can get a super Tig torch it would act the same as the plasma device I use.By that I mean, you could have control of the puddle and do conventional welding without going to stick or mig, similar to a super big Oxy acc torch. It's just a design thought I'm working on, and the basics are some really thick tungsten rods in a custom made torch holder with a lot of amps thrown in........would 400 amps be humungeous?I'm working on the idea that if you have a large heat source you can weld anything without actually laying down metal in the process.....that's what I do now with you know what. The design I'm thinking of has 5 tungsten rods around a single tungsten rod with argon as the cooling gas to keep the central rod from burning away......the five surrounding rods are there to form a collet and carry the amps to the extended central one.As a current source I expect 4 simple AC cheap as sh!t hobby welders run in parallel would provide the 400 amps current, and as they are all current variable you'd have complete control over the output. It would also be simple to convert each welder to DC as off the shelf diodes in the 100 amp range are quite cheap even if you need 4 sets of them.Four welders at less than $90 each with no complex circuitry to go out of wack. The torch body would probably be custom made, maybe water cooled too.Any ideas on the feasibility of such a device?I'm thinking in terms of welding steel plate in the 19mm thick range.....3/4" in Imperial.Ian.

Rated to 650 amps, can take 1/8 - 5/16th diameter tungsten. I would be a nice accesory to my Dynasty 700, but the Speedway 450 does just fine. Don't see an application for your idea, but keep pressing on.
Reply:I toured a $150,000,000 co-gen air separation plant that sold 700-900 tons of oxygen per day to the refinery next door. If I recall the plant had a capacity up to 2000 tons/day. It took the Co2 from the refinery and purified it for resale and also supplied the various gases for their other customers. In the tour they said they make enough money from just the argon to pay for the operation of the plant and everything else is just gravy!!! The air is about 2% argon. I bet they would love it if everyone had 6 tungsten TIG torches that all required bulk liquid argon tanks on site. It wouldn't matter how inexpensive it would be to have 4 buzz boxes hooked up to get the required amps or if you got the power for free. The cost of the argon to provide adequate shielding would trump everything else if it was all free. I've heard of some bizarre idea's before but a 6 tungsten TIG torch? It wasn't a brain movement you were having... were you sittin' on the crapper at the time?Last edited by Welder Dave; 12-09-2014 at 12:59 AM.

Reply:By the gallon!!!!......heck I don't use it all that much.......1:3 alky/water ratio is all it takes. and the fill is only 50cc at a time.Argon is another matter......now that's really a money bin.Ian.
