Anybody built one for their drill press or related tool? Dialled my press in the other day and greatly improved accuracy and eliminated most vibration.Still a very small amount of vibration and I heard that a dynamic absorber will take care of that.Am really looking for pics so that I can built on myself.
Reply:Do you mean like a harmonic dampener on a car engine? You may be able to find one as a new or used auto part. The belts and pulleys are a common source of vibrations on drill presses. If a v-belt width is not constant the effective radius around the pulley will change, resulting in vibration. Same for varying pulley width. I've had some serious vibration problems on tools with Chinese v-belts. A link type belt such as PowerTwist can also help reduce vibration since the links are pretty consistent and the belt does not take a set like a solid belt.http://www.fennerdrives.com/high_per...hpc_vbelts.aspLincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools
Reply:Yes - like a harmonic damper. I'll take a close look at the PowerTwist.Thanx Brad. |
