Hi every BodyI want to hard facing of check valve with stellite 6. i heard that one layer of inconel 625 shall be deposited at first.if this subject is right what is the function of this layer and do you have any reference? Thanks!
Reply:From what I read, it is relatively common to use a soft base layer under hardfacing, especially to rebuild worn away material. Hardfacing is relatively brittle (depending on type), and a soft base layer reduces the risk of cracking. At other times a "basecoat" may be used simply because the hardfacing does not work well straight on the base metal. You add a layer that welds well onto the base material, and in turn, the hardfacing welds well onto that.I have no idea if that's the purpouse of a layer inconel 625, or what properties that has, but if it's supposed to be there I'm guessing the reasoning is something along those lines.
