Got this back blade years ago. Customer brought it in for repair but when I gave him a price he said just scrap it and went and got himself a new one. I fixed the pivot a few years ago so I could plow snow but I wanted to do some dirt moving this summer so I decided to fix the blade too. Here is what I started with. I had to do it in a friends machinery shed because I hadn't gotten the electricity run to my shed yet. Not the best work environment, but better than outside. I started by pulling it straight as possible with a chain and jack. Then some heat and hammer work to get rid of the crease. I didn't heat the cutting edge because I didn't want to weaken it any more than it was. I got it pretty good without. Attached Images
Reply:Next I took some 3/16"x 6" flat for bracing. One flat from the center tube out and 2 cut to fit the top and bottom to fill in and attached to the center support. I did both sides the same. Attached ImagesLast edited by welderj; 08-05-2013 at 10:54 PM.
Reply:Took a little barring to get it into place but not bad. Attached Images
Reply:Then welded it 100% and some finish hammer work to get the top straight. Attached Images
Reply:Then weld in the plate that got torn out and weld the brace from the top link and some paint and it's done. Attached Images
Reply:Jacks and chains, big hammers, torch, looks like something I'd do I like the bracing on the back almost as much as the color - pretty close to my WD Allis Chalmers Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Nice Job!When I did one for a customer (bent worse) I used a hydraulic jack and I-beam, only taking cutting edge off first.I put a piece of heavy angle iron across the bottom using 1/2" backers where you used the 3/16" box.I posted it on here somewhere?

Reply:Nice work!!. I never cease to be amazed after I repair a completely abused and beaten down piece of equipment about how good it can look(and work) after repairing and painting. I love that Kubota Orange color. I wonder how my Idealarc would look that color.

Reply:Thanks so much for all the nice comments. This was a fun job.
Reply:Great fitup on the brace on the rear. Be careful, though. My impression is that most of the time, when you brace one part of an implement and not the rest of it, you just cause the next thing in line to break when you abuse it. Most likely, the customer ran this blade on way too high a HP tractor, otherwise it wouldn't be bent up like that. Don't make the same mistake, and it'll probably last you a good long time. What surface prep did you do before painting?Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!
Reply:You are right about chasing the repairs around. Been there done that! It's just going to be pushing some dirt and snow around the yard on a 40 hp tractor and I know I'll have to take it easy. A for the paint I just wire brushed it to get most of the loose paint and rust off and brushed on some implement paint. I normally don't do cheesey paint jobs but since this is a user and not for my collection I did it on the cheap.
