Routing an Electronic Smoker Thermometer Lead

OK, not a welding question, but related to a welding project...I am finishing up a pit, and was gonna install a couple of door-mounted gauges, but decided to use the Maverick electronic one instead.I want to drill a small (1/4 - 3/8 ish) hole for the lead to pass through the shell.I don' think enough heat would escape through it to matter, but thought it wouldn't hurt to use some kind of small diameter heat resistant rubber tubing as a grommet of sorts to close up the hole. and hold the lead.What would you use? ---if anything??On the other hand, I guess I could make one out of RTV?ThanksHobart Beta-Mig 2511972 Miller AEAD-200LEMiller 250 TwinNorthern Ind. Reply:let it leak...not worth fussing over, and I really don't trust any chemicals in my smoker. If anything I would use plain cotton to plug the hole. I used cotton piping from Joanne Fabrics as my door gasket on my wooden smoker. I never smoke at temps higher than 250 degrees so flammability is not an issue.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:For the sake of keeping it in one place...Furnace Cement....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:clear silicone 1 has a very high heat resistance and will hold it in place..just a dab will do ya....Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...

Reply:I run as many as six probes on my pit. I have split doors so I opened up a wide spot in the door gap to run the leads out. I just let them leak. Dan D.Manipulator Of Metal
Reply:DAP Titanium Silicone caulk is rated for food handling equipment, and as I remember it is good to 600 F.
Reply:You need the leaks to circulate the smoke. Air tight will not work. I have 1/2 in holes in the top of mine.Doing the best I can with what I got
