I am laying out plans to build a good sized but simple propane griddle for the back porch. It's going to go along side my BBQ pit / smoker and my turkey fryer burner that I use for big boiling pots small cast iron skillet or my Disco. I'm going to keep it simple I don't care about fancy. I can't decide how big to make it but I'm thinking 2'X4' to somewhere around 3'X6' or any size in between. I'm going to put a 3-4 inch rim around the back and on the sides with a grease trap in the front. I'm either going to put a small 1 inch rim in front and cut holes for the grease to drain into or attach a grease trap right in front not sure yet. I was originally thinking about buying 3 or 4 of those burners found on turkey fryers building a bracket to mount them. Then some how pipe them in to a single propane tank with individual regulators for each burner. But I don't think that would get me very good heat distribution. So now I'm thinking about using the old style gas grill burners. I think that may give better heat distribution. Does anybody know of any good web sights to buy grill replacement parts? I may need to buy piping also. Also any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thank you.
Reply:Did you ever build this?I have a 38" x 15" griddle that I'm about to start building a frame and propane burner setup for. I'm going to use 1/2" black pipe, tees, and caps and just drill small holes in the 3 pipes that will go from front to back. Downstream from the regulator will be a valve that allows me to turn off the right burner so that side isn't as hot. The idea is fajitas or burgers on the left and tortillas or buns on the right where it isn't as hot.Thoughts?GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference. |
