Anyone here involved with explosive welding? They apparently do it over in Port Angeles. Today they must be welding the Pacific Fault together cause they are going at it all day so far. Anyone working over there and why so much explosive fusing? What is the process used for and why not use standard processes?200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:I know it's used to fuse alum to steel, which is used in ships a lot ... maybe they're building more ships than usual?

Reply:Hello Bert, here's an example of the aluminum/steel stuff, they call it Data Bar, don't ask me why it is named that though. It is used a lot in the ship/barge building industry. The fellow who was on the forum that was associated with this was out of Texas if my memory serves me correctly and his company also bonded/explosively welded a lot of other dissimilar materials. Best regards, Allan Attached Imagesaevald

Reply:Thanks for the replies guys. Very informative. I looked it up on Y.T. too. Lots of good vid's. As for the Haji welding( ), I believe that's "spray transfer"....Interesting that explosive welding was originally discovered in WW1 and 2 as a result of explosion damage and later experimented with under controlled conditions. What ever they are doing across the Strait of Juan de Fuca, it sure makes a racket.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack. |
