I have a Miller XMT 300 cc/cv welder. Is there a way to use it as a power supply for plasma cutting? If so what do I need to do? I use it for everything else, so it seems it should be able to do that too.
Reply:I guess it will depend on the input power for the plasma cutter. Remember, you will need an air source, so you have to either run an air compressor, or use bottled air for the plasma cutter. So long as you have the power output from the genset, you are good to go!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Generally the voltage level for plasma cutting is much higher than what a welding power supply will go to.  The only way I know of to do this is find a Powcon Starcut which is a plasma cutter machine that uses a separate welder for the power supply.  I think a member or two on here has one...
