A friend gave me 10# of 1/16 308 SS electrodes. Can I use these to join regular mild steel? If so, what starting amperage?I also have 3/32 6013 available. I have to weld two threaded bungs to a 50 gallon steel drum. I was gonna tig them, but it would be easier to transport my stick machine to his place than to transport the drum to me. The bungs are around 1/4" thick and the drum around 1/16" thick. The drum will hold water, but no pressure. Reply:Yes, stainless steel rods works fine on mild steel. Expensive but fine. Around 40 Amps for 1/16".
Reply:I've used them to join mild carbon steel before with no problems. Had good fusion throughout the weld. Like was mentioned before they are a little pricey but if you already have them might as well use them. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2Hobart Stick mate LX AC/DCHarris O/A outfit
