Hey all just figured we could have a chat on titanium pipe welding. Have searched in the past and haven't found much on here or even online to be honest.I am in the process of getting my Titanium ticket at the local UA hall. Had a crack at it Friday. Tried continuous feed at first on the bottom. No worky the wire didn't melt completely into the puddle instead it pushed through. So I went and started dipping just like duplex and stainless. This stuff welds pretty nice. The rod is "sticky" though. I used a cut and fill technique. I would step the tig torch foreward and cut the keyhole open then step the torch back and dip into the hottest part of the puddle, this pretty much eliminated my sticking problem. Unless of course I touched the filler wire outside of the puddle anywhere it would stick right on...You need a very good purge and clean clean clean. Trail purge is also required. No color allowed on the weld when done, they may let us away with a "light straw"...Anyone else have any Titanium pipe experience they would like to put up on here ?I plan to test Monday !Journeyman / Red Seal Welder (What a useless test)Miller CST 280Miller XMT 350Miller 12vs XtremeEvolution Evo 28 mag drillEvolution 380 Dry Cut saw
Reply:I have no experience whatsoever welding titanium. Fieldres has a couple videos on it you may find interesting though
Reply:Not too interested in him to be honest ! His videos have gone downhill in my eyes. Used to love some of his older ones on how to weld with different filler metals, and how to weld duplex. He took those videos down just as soon as I needed them for a duplex job. Not much sense relying on his videos for help if he is going to put them up and take them down like crazy !I'm looking for everyone with knowledge of titanium pipe to come here and put in there 2c worth so we can have a post here on WW that gives details of how to weld titanium, there isn't much around on it. A lot of people seem afraid of it like it is hard to weld. I will be honest here it seems as easy as stainless to me. Maybe easier ?At least with information posted on here it should stay here for people to find and use as a resource.Journeyman / Red Seal Welder (What a useless test)Miller CST 280Miller XMT 350Miller 12vs XtremeEvolution Evo 28 mag drillEvolution 380 Dry Cut saw
