Newb here and just made my welding table.  Base is about 3.5'x3.5' with a 4' 1/2" top.  I don't have an engine crane or anything to lift the top or the whole table over so I'm going to need to attach it with it sitting on top.   My teen son and I had a bear of a time getting the top on the table to begin with.  Do you have any basic tips for welding /w GMAW to attach the table to the 4 legs?  High power, high feed, fast pace?  Or should I really only be looking at tacking it down.  The reason I'm attaching it is safety.  It doesn't move much, but it moves easier than I would expect when bumping it with your hip.Last edited by whiskeymike; 01-12-2015 at 02:35 PM.
Reply:I'd put maybe (4) 1-inch tacks. It doesn't take much to hold the top in place.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:As stated tacks are fine. With the top in location, I would lay a straight edge across it in every direction to verify flatness , then clamp or shim as required.
Reply:Just weld it upside down. Welding upside down is about the same as right side up, except for the sparks. Cover yourself.
