I want to re-mount the air compressor on the truck so it sits accross the front of the bed behind the cab.  To do this and still be able to use my lumber rack, I need the compressor to be shorter.  It's taller than the rack.   It has a 30 gallon 200 psi tank on it.  The pump works very well and I feel I can get away with alot smaller tank and still have enough air.   I'm thinking either 2 of those long skinny hot dog type tanks, or a long skinny single 15 or 20 gallon tank would allow the compressor to sit low enough so it's below the rack bars.  Anyways, does anyone know a good source for a 200 psi tank that might work for me?Thanks for your replies! Here's a pic of the compressor in the truck.  I want to turn it 90* and mount it behind the Bobcat. Here can be seen how much taller the compressor is than the rack-Last edited by DesertRider33; 02-09-2009 at 12:18 AM.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Not that this is where to get a tank, but there are some pdf's of models so a guy can have some numbers and sizes to play with for fit. http://www.pneumaticdepot.com/produc...llons&type=MT1
Reply:WW Grainger has tanks but you might also check the Bell Yellow Pages for companies that sell air compressors in your area.Have you thought about mounting the engine and pump on a separate plate which sits in front of the old tank and using flexible hose and maybe some pipe to connect the two? Or mount both the tank feet, and pump/engine unit to the same plate, with appropriate piping? What about airflow for cooling?
Reply:This may not be acceptable to you,  but every farm auction I have ever been to has had multiple air tanks that are missing compressors, some nearly new..Average sale price is 20 to 50 bucks.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:Anybody have the formula for figuring gallons of a cylinder from the diameter and length?
Reply:Thanks!  That should be 'close enough'.Assuming a radius of 9" and a length of 45", (3.1416 x 9squared x 45) / 232 = ~49.36 gallonsI'm thinking I should probly use at least a 20 gallon tank if my current tank is almost 50 gallons...MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:I think there are 231 cu. inches per gallon; just a minor difference. The volume of a sphere is 4/3 x 3.14 x r 'cubed' where r is the radius of the tank (and x means 'times'). Consider each end to be half the sphere, so you have both halves. Volume of the remaining cylinder is as above; just add the sphere to the cylinder.
Reply:grainger has them but you might check around as they pricey. www.compressorworld.com/airtanks.aspx found this one with a quick search.Last edited by flatbustedbroke; 02-09-2009 at 03:35 AM.
