http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=45861This lathe seemed great with their 20% off coupon but can you put a bigger spindle on it? Even with the new spidle/chuck its cheaper than a bigger lathe plus I'll only be doing Alum. and Brass thats 3/4" through 1".Last edited by Stever Passonar; 03-07-2009 at 10:24 PM.
Reply:Bigger spindle?  Nope.Bigger chuck than the stock 4" one?  Probably to most likely.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Putting a larger chuck should not be too difficult, just machine an adapter plate for the larger chuck. If you really need a larger spindle with a through hole to handle 1" diameter material I think it would be far cheaper to just get a bigger lathe. The amount and complexity of the modifications to the headstock and drive system required to install a larger spindle would be huge. How long are the pieces you are working on? Can you not just use a steady rest or turn between centers?Visit Tensaiteki.com
Reply:If you can't turn your material on the lathe without modification then you need to find a bigger lathe.  There is no way to install a bigger spindle.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
