I thought I'd try the TD Cutmaster 52 to rough in a cut in some 1/2" plate.  I'm not a big fan of plasma, but I figure I ought to give it a chance.  The biggest upside for me is the lack of HAZ close to the cut. This allows for pretty precise cutting without overheating the surrounding area.  Also I like the fine line of the cuts.  ALTHOUGH MY EYESIGHT SUCKS AT 57  I'm figuring on getting a nice full face #5 shade that I can wear glasses under.Anyways.........................This is the rough cut I need, marked by the red line on the plate.  Next I eyeballed the Plasmatron, and set it for what I thought would do a decent cut.  55amps, 75psi air.  Probably ought to keep a little chart of my settings for the future.  I probably only use the machine once every few months. And whadya know!!!!!!!!  Doggone thing did as it's supposed to!!!!!!!!!!!  Surprised the daylights outta me Dammy Grammy!!"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Nice new 'toy', huh,At 52, I've been wearing bifocals for close work for few years.I recently found out that you can adjust the hinge of the helmet. The sides have elongated holes.Loosen the hinge friction nuts and slide the helmet all the way forward vs. the harness and then tighten the nuts for smooth operation. The helmet now closes lower on your face and you can look through the reading portion of prescription glasses.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A
Reply:That's a great tool. You surely love its full potential.
Reply:After the rough cut, it's time to smoogie it to fit a pin.For something like this I really like a cone stone, and a die grinder.  (Forget those crappy air powered die grinders, not worth a crap for this kind of work)THESE ARE THE WEAPONS OF CHOICEAnd the semi final Smoogie  The opposite side will be done the same when the final fit is determinedNext it has to be put back on the machine to check the movement in the hinge assembly.  I have no firm idea how this part looked when manufactured, so I have to fine tooooon it to work on the machine.SPEAKING OF WEAPON OF CHOICE"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Forgive my ignorance, but is that cone stone mounted on a regular 4 1/2" grinder??Thanks,Joe
