Quite a while back I was given an old tractor that did not run. With the help of a few people here I got it running but it had some problems that were over my head. I decided to get rid of it.I posted it on Craigslist and had a guy offer me an old truck in trade. I traded for the old truck and although I did not need it, it came in handy as an extra vehicle to use when other vehicle were being repaired. However, I did not need the expense of insurance, plates and GAS for this gas hog. Had a 351 with an edelbrock carb that just sucked the gas through it.I decided to put it on Craigslist to see what I could get for it. I advertised it for sale or trade for a riding mower. Remember, I have $0 invested in this truck other than the plates so anything would be a good trade. The wife wanted it out of the yard also so I was willing to take anything that could be useful to me as a trade.I got a reply asking if I could use a brand new plasma cutter. Naturally I said yes and requested more information. A couple emails and a phone call later I traded the truck for a plasma. Brand new, still in box.For an investment of $0 I ended up with a plasma that, depending where you look, is worth between $1700 and $2200.It is a Thermal Dynamics Drag Gun Plus. Cuts 1/2", plenty for what I do.Now that I have the plasma, I have a question. Are all consumables created equal? Will I have to buy consumables from the manufacturer? Are there aftermarket places that sell compatible consumables? Anyone here have this plasma and if so, where do you get your consumables? Attached Images
Reply:Total newbie here to this forum, old motorcycle frame TIG welder, recumbent bike builder. Sorry to post off topic, Bob and others,  BUT this is the only way I've found to post anything at all - search and FAQ came up with nothing as far as telling me how to post a new message...Help!  The tool bar across the top has nuthin about New Posts, wha...?Ernie B
Reply:Ernie,If you look at my picture (the one of me in my first post) you will see right above it where it says "Post Reply."That is the location you need to look for in other forums. If you go to any of the forums, there will be a button just like the "Post Reply" button but it will say "New Thread.' Just go to the forum you want to post your question or comments in and click on "New Thread" and you will get a blank place to write your post.
Reply:Consumables should be available at any good welding supply. I wouldn't think they would be brand specific. I'm not familiar with the brand, but I'm old school and have used only the plasma cutters at shops I have worked at. I generally use OA, unless it's something I specifically need a plasma cutter for. I'd say you done well, if in the future you decide it's not for you, send it this way! Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches

Reply:Nice trading, Bob!Yes, the only consumables that will work are those made for that particular torch. Any LWS that carries TD machines should be able to fix you right up. You might can find a slightly better deal online though. My TD cutmaster 38 has a parts diagram on top of the machine with the part numbers listed for the consumables.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
