OK I had a old Century AC 100 amp welder that I started welding with a few weeks ago. I welded with it three times and then it died. I replaced it with a Everlast 160 STH and here are my first welds where I held a consistent arc. I like the DC better than AC. I find the DC arc smoother and a lot less violent. Anyway do laugh too much and remember this is my real first time welding.Century AC 100 stick (dead but trying to fix it)Everlast PA 160 STHhttp://www.riograndehatters.comhttp://www.texashatcleaners.com

Reply:Not bad at all Jay, nothing to laugh about.Like Shortbus said, clean the plate.  Welding is 80% prep. There's one bead you have that actually looks "pretty good", I'd bet it was 7018.  Upper row, 2nd or 3rd from the left.I'm no pro, but looks like you just need to work on your motor skills and learn your heat settings.I'm guessing you haven't tried the high frequency on the tig yet.Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
