Anyone ever use one and do they really work? They look like they are made from the same material that is in some oven doors for the seal.
Reply:I haven't bought or used one but I think it is just a piece of this stuff:http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/pr...sleeving/55/47kidtigger24  They think I’m crazy, but I know better. It is not I who am crazy. It is I who am MAD!
Reply:I just bought the three pack. Thus far I haven't found the situations where they are needed most. What I can say I like about them is that they slide very easily where as I sometimes find my gloves getting caught up. Obviously on a jagged piece of material this probably will not hold true. I think that pipe is where one would find them the most useful. I normally walk the cup but I can see them making dabbing a whole lot more comfortable. Those are my 10 cents. -Marc
Reply:Sliding easily is what I was hoping for. I am currently working on a project using slick aluminum and I think the tig finger could be of some assistance. Kind of tired of blistering my knuckles and finger tips. I hate to rely on a crutch but I am not as steady handed as some. I have always laid an extra glove under my torch hand but this doesn't work in some cases.

Reply:I've found mine to be verrrrry useful on aluminum parts that get super hot while welding.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

Reply:It looks to me like plain ole woven fiberglass cloth.... used in boat building , etc....they are putting a fancy name on it... and folding it to fit on your finger... It is available in wide pieces... but this probably would work best since it has the sides fixed so they do not unravel... http://shop.sailboatowners.com/prod....iberglass+TapeYou can find it in smaller amounts and it cuts just fine with a good pair of scissors... I used a lot of it modifying my MIGI 2 1952 MG TD replica. This lays down smoother than fiberglass matt usually used ( and sprayed on ) making boats.... very strong once the resin is worked in... wear gloves when working on it... you can seal the edges from fraying with high temp silicone gasket sealer...Last edited by GBM; 09-15-2011 at 09:20 PM.Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:I use them, they work pretty well. I sometimes thing they should make a TIG mitt, to shield your fingers from radiant heat, like one that covers your last 3 fingers.
Reply:I have been wanting one of those. A wrist band would be cool.... But i also like the idea of not having to rest on anything. The best welder i know sometimes only welds with a tiny piece of paper folded over to hold the filler with. And he never wears a glove on his torch hand. Its the craziest thing. He never rests his hands and his welds are flawless. But he is one of those freak people with ultra steady hands.www.performancealuminumfabrication.com

Reply:They really do make it nice when you need to rest a finger on the work piece to steady the TIG torch. They really have become indispensible. Def worth the money not just for the awesome product, but to support Jody for all the work he's put into the site and videos to help educate ppl
Reply:I got the 3 pack a few weeks ago. Haven't used them tigging yet as I've been in a good spot to walk the cup.I did use them when stick welding overhead though. Had a freaking hot arse rod oven and was in a tight spot so I put one on my other hand to guide/steady the rod.Worked great.Semper FiJesus may have been a Carpenter, but his dad was a Millwright" A grinder and a can of paint, will make a welder what he aint' "I've done so much, with so little, for so long, that now I can do anything with nothing!
Reply:" A wrist band would be cool "...... not if it touches your skin.... this is fiberglass and usual precautions should be taken to keep the tiny ends from breaking off in your skin....really unpleasant...Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:I don't think there fiberglass, I think it's more like a nomex type woven cloth material like whats used in fire suits for race car drivers...the 3 pack s the way to go, I sometimes use 2 or 3 at the same time for an almost mit type effect, at that you can rest your whole hand on anything & not burn your gloves... there also cool to just slide over a few finger tips so you can pick up something even just welded & move or re-position itmiller 330a bp TIGmiller dynasty 200DX TIGmillermatic 185 MIGthermal dynamics cutmaster 101 plasma cuttersnap-on YA5550 plasma cutterhypertherm powermax 30 plasma cutterbaileigh CS225 cold sawetc....

Reply:move your hand back on the torch....I forgot how to change this.
Reply:it actually looks more like this stuff...  http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/pr...e-sleeve/59/44  can anyone with one measure the diameter with it flat?   maybe Jody had it made is a custom diameter for his TIG FingersTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:You guys trying to make it look like I am trying to take money from Jody are being silly.  I do not know him, I have not been to  his site, do not know how much he is charging for them , etc..  All I did was look at the picture...and having some craft ceramics background , recognized that fiberglass woven cloth both looks like that AND has the physical characteristics to fill the bill on thermal  performance.... it can be used inside kiln fired objects like tall thin leaves to give them strength which plain clay does not have.Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.

Reply:Yeah how about the mitt idea- have jody make one for all three fingers insteas of just the last one ?Or last 2 fingers maybe ?
Reply:Originally Posted by jethroYeah how about the mitt idea- have jody make one for all three fingers insteas of just the last one ?Or last 2 fingers maybe ?I believe the mitt idea... or anything made from this stuff to work in the high heat it is designed for... comes down to what could you use to hold it together ?   Most threads would not work and you  would not want to use metal threads or things due to 'good' heat transfer properties... transferring the heat to the fingers....  I believe the current design is used because it can be simply folded together and work as needed for the perceived task.... expanding the parameters of the task may present bigger construction problems than are feasible to deal with economically or practically.   Or maybe not.   I have not seen one of these in person ....and still wonder why some people think it is not simply woven fiberglass cloth.... when I did a cursory search for the physical characteristics of Nomex for example... it's high end working temperature looks to be 1000 degrees F less than fiberglass. If they have mixed something else with the fiberglass they did a great job of hiding it visually....and the other part of that thought process is.... IF fiberglass would work fine by itself... why up the price of the material used  by going to the trouble of incorporating one or more other products ?Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:I purchased the tig finger because I found it intriguing.I doubt I will use it very often as I am use to holding the torch by the handle and keep my fingers out of harms way. Reply:I bought 2 of them after I got em I quickly realized DAMN! I never prop on my fingers! I always prop on my knuckles or the side of my hand. So I took one and rest my hand on it works great that way they really keep you fingers and hands cool its nice. I voting for a tig glove that would be awesome! I just need one large one though I rarley where a glove on my feeding hand unless I'm really in tight somewhere and I can just laywire.

Reply:The ones I've used are made of fiberglass, I think.
Reply:I bought a tig finger. My pipe fitter buddy asked me if I was seriously gonna put a condom on my finger to weld with. I haven't use it yet!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:How bout making the whole back side of a glove out of that stuff. Reply:Jody is a great guy to support, and the product works very well when you have a need for them.
Reply:I think it's a great tool. I use it for welding tubing. Slides smoothly and easily. Most of my stuff is pretty low amps, so the TIG finger allows me to just use thin cotton gloves. The little extra dexterity has helped me learn along the way.
