I have a Harris alternate fuel torch kit (Steelworker kit) which came with check valves already installed on the torch handle. The O2 valve buzzes and makes the flame sing. It has been like this since new. Is this normal, or did I get a bum valve?- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:I have a couple of O/A torches with check valves and most of them make noise, some more than others. I've never noticed any sound from the flame, though.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I have a thread going asking about the same exact thing. I bought a set of Western Enterprises flashback arrestors for my harris torch, and the oxygen side had a buzz in the check valve. I returned them for a fresh set, and both valves do it on the new set. The new set also made the flame "sing" like you said the one time I tested them. I can also see the flame intensity pulsating, it's driving me nuts. I'm hoping I can buy a set made for lower flow applications that will have check valves like came with my torches, they open smoothly and easily at very low pressure. |
