Reply:Mounted on an S10, no less. Can only hope that he has a very solid set of safety chains, properly attached. Not a matter of if, only when.Hobbyist - At what point is a "hobby" out-of-control?

Reply:It's really odd that someone could possess the skills to fab that up, but remain clueless of the physics they were putting into play.... It looks like a couple good kicks could shove it up under the tailgate... Apparently he's pretty easy on the brakes.

Reply:15k lbs of 1 trailer, 3 horses, 4 saddles, full gear, 6 bales of hay. I'm going with this one for a bumper pull! The small one in front is for the tractor trailer. Next one up is our gooseneck which lives in the bed of our truck. I think we go for overbuilt everything! Attached Images
Reply:Oh yeah....Here in cattle country(I.E....cheap *** rancher land) I see tons of the box tube and angle iron stingers and the sweet 8" "drop" stingers made of box tube and flat plate with no braces at all oddlt they all seem to bow at a slight angle towards the front of the truck.... But then again I once bought a first gen cummins truck that the last owner had welded some plate to the bed with a ball for his goose neck, ripped that out of the box floor then moved the plate and did it again....Could not for the life of me figure out that thought train......Well.....hmmmm boy that din't work maybe if I move it forward a few inches and re weld it to that bed floor I just know I can avoid going under the truck to tie it to the frame....lolMillermatic 30aMillermatic 210Miller thunderbolt 225 ac/dc/ccMiller HF15-1-wg tigLincoln ranger 10(honda powered)Cebora 175 mig Too damn many tools but oddly not enough......
Reply:Maybe it's for towing a surf board? If GM rated the Chevy Chevette (1970's compact car) for towing 3000# (attached to the sheet metal how IDK) this should work for something.Maybe it's for towing a toy hauler....a Tonka truck or something!
Reply:It's bright yellow so they can find it when it falls off.
Reply:Oh that that were tube! Solid 2" receiver stock welded to 2 1/2" load horizontal and 5/8" wrap around carrying a 2 5/16" ball and double load levelers. 76lbs of Texas iron that carries a 1" variable pitch mounting with full 3/4" thru bolts. Our horses will not be passing US on the freeway!
Reply:needs gussetOops, never mind. You wrote gusset and for some reason I was thinking leveler-shim which I left out when I put it back together for the picture. I disassembled it and painted it today. Anyway, as to the gusset, the rated arc-draw on the darned thing in existing configuration is 20T which actually exceeds the shear value of the connector bolts. Ah, back in the good old days of over-engineering!Last edited by jlames; 08-18-2013 at 09:06 PM.
Reply:This setup reminded me of just emptying out the rv dunnie. You know those little tanks on a cart that are meant to be towed by a golf cart or the like. I don't imagine you are going to get far down the Interstate with that setup.

Reply:Wait, this just in; "Revolutionary, new trailer hitch design saves man's life in overturn accident." Haa, so I guess that shows that appearances are deceiving. Tiozzi captured a "revolutionary, new hitch" in his first posting!
Reply:Maybe that truck is hanging by the safety chains!
Reply:Can you photoshop "Tozzi Welding" on the door of that truck?
Reply:A guy stopped at the shop one day to see if I would tack his hitch back on so he could move back home to Alabama. He was driving a 56 ford crown victoria and pulling an Old pickup bed trailer. You know the kind. His trailer tongue and hitch was just maybe an inch from the ground and he said it was hitting when he pulled into a station.  I went out and got down on the asphalt and looked at how it was hooked to the car.  Someone had wire welded the hitch to the bottom of the spare tire stamping in the trunk and one bead across the edge of the bumper.  I really felt bad for him, but he was broke, and it was a lose lose job .  Even If I had tried to jury rig it a little better I might get sued for my kindness  Mac

Reply:Well here is a fine hitch install I saw today while loading a bronco on my rollback....... Good hot deep penetration, and perfect speed while welding Oh wait nope thats what they were missing damn thing was mounted with two ungraded 3/8s bolts that were shanked to long so they very professionally stacked split washers to make up the difference  (oh and added these fine welds)I was nice enough to tell the customer not to ever use the hitch unless it was repaired correctly. They said that they had never had use for the hitch.I did offer to repair it as a shop comp while my guys were replacing the starter, damn thing has all the holes where bolts should be but no bolts (figure it makes my shop look good to comp the hitch repair and I am only out the cost of the correct hardware)... It also gives me peace of mind to know that the hitch will be properly attached if they ever do use it. Reply:Good deeds always return. What you did has a good chance of saving someone alot of grief and possibly a life somewhere down the road; someone who, never giving it a second thought, may purchase the car or borrow the car  and just drop a load on the hitch figuring it must be good. To see a  threat and say nothing is reprehensible. To do something about it is commendable.
