I am just looking to get into OA welding and cutting and am doing my reading now. I have seen the victor charts and similar talking about the welding and cutting thicknesses as well as cfm requirements, etc. when considering mild steel applications... so what about if you want to weld aluminum or any other metals such as stainless/cast iron? I can't imagine the same tip sizing and tank requirements but I can't find any charts guidelines or anything. I picked up an 80ft acetylene tank and a 125 oxy tank, looking for a cheap multipurpose way to fabricate in a hobby garage. I just want to know if I should be jumping my acetylene tank up a size to stay 1 in 7 since I Have the opportunity to do so cheap (if I have to). I want to know what is appropriate to support what and after a few hours of searching I was hoping someone here might have information to share.
Reply:Well, I can't comment on the "welding" of aluminum and stainless with O/A, but I can comment on the "cutting" aspect of your question. Simply put, you can NOT cut those metals with an O/A torch. Only ferrous metals can be cut with O/A. "Hey I didn't come to look and learn, I came to turn and burn....
