Hey guys, I just found a local ad for what looks like an OA setup for 100$. There are two tanks and regulators and some other items. I just need a basic checklist of things to determine if this stuff is safe, the tanks are useable and what not. Normally I would do some more research before I resort to a quick post like this but I'm working and then leaving for vacation soon. So my window to buy this is tiny. Thanks in advance.
Reply:Post a pic. Full size, or little tanks. So long as they are owner tanks they should be fine. As long as you buy brand name torches/regs (eg Victor) then they are rebuild-able. $100 is cheap for a full size set up. Go for it.
Reply:Yes, just buy it quick. Ask questions later. Take a chance. Live on the edge.
Reply:Well, did it. Turns out the bottles were leased, so I paid $100 for torches, regulators and hose, tips and tool box.  I thought the oxygen bottle would be owned as it was not stamped leased. But, praxair quoted me 85$ per bottle for a ten year lease instead of 140$ per bottle since I'm giving them these back.  So maybe I still did good?  Now to research this thoroughly before I blow myself up. I got a neat book to read with it too. Last edited by Brownfaux; 06-28-2013 at 12:43 PM.
Reply:Looks good! Make sure the reg inlet fittings are clean, especially the Oxy. No grease/hyrdocarbon should ever be near pure O2. Hose looks fine from the pics, bend it tightly, if you see any cracks, replace it. That's a great reference book, read it and use it. It's still the standard for O/A, even though it's old. $100 for what's in the pics is still a great deal without tanks as long as the regulators work. There is a good basic setup/walkthrough as well as a regulator test procedure outlined in the Harris torch manual. Lincoln also has some good videos on youtube. I bought my tanks used for about $100, they were out of date but fully owned. My LWS had no issue swapping them out even though they were a bit dirty and old, and now I have some fresh clean tanks that cost the same as a few years rent.
Reply:Yeah I wish the oxygen tank had been owned like I thought but oh well. Thanks  for the tips!

Reply:Well that's what I don't get. I bought my c25 tank at us welding. But they don't refill the tank itself, they just give me a another full bottle stamped "owned".  My current bottle has airbags stamped on it.   So what the heck?
