Reply:ifs made in china no thanks
Reply:That's what I was afraid of.  I guess it's back to the drawing board...Thanks for the info.

Reply:If it's Snap On, it may be a rebadged Clarke.  I've seen some Snap On welders that were actually Clarke'sDon't know if I'd wanna plunk down hard earned moola on a Clarke"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:My first plasma was a used Blue point (Snap On's "Bargain" line).  Also made in Italy.  I couldn't get it to fire, so I called the Snap On Customer Support..what a joke!  The rudest, most condescending rep I have ever dealt with...all because I bought it used ("How could I prove it wasn't stolen?")  He wanted me to go through my Local dealer...who of course isn't listed in the book, on the web, or have a place of business.  I'd have to spot the truck and follow him to a stop....in the end the "rep" told me to crank up the air pressure to 80 psi and "push start" the arc by depressing the tip against the work.  It cut fine, but I listed it on ebay the next day after being treated so shabbily by Snap On, and bought a Thermal Dynamics (since sold to "go bigger")."Good Enough Never Is"MIller AC/DC  ThunderboltHobart HH180, 125EZRiland Cut 40 Plasma oxy/act  outfitTons of "stuff", all treasures to me!
Reply:You would be much better off looking at an American made plasma such as the Hypertherm Powermax30. This "Bluepoint" plasma is imported....and uses a knock off copy of a 30 year old Esab torch design. It is a high frequency start plasma, 25 Amps maximum output power. It will likely sever about 1/4" material.....really is designed for thin gauge work such as automotive or roofing type work.Or watch for used major brand systems on Craigslist or Ebay. The Hypertherm unit to watch for (for a 120 volt unit) would be a Powermax380....it will blow the doors off the imports, and has parts and service available from Hypertherm. Often you can find these for less than $800 used. I just saw one listed on either the NH or Vermont Craig's list for less than $800 yesterday.Jim Colt
Reply:Thanks again Folks.  I've been prowling Craig's List but nothing comes up in my area.  I appreciate the advice.  I'll follow it and just wait until I find a US made one.
Reply:...and I wasn't knocking it because its Italian, the one I've been using for the past three years or so is Chinese (Riland Cut 40), and has been very good...but the Hypertherm and Thermal Dynamics are at the front of the parade...but more expensive.I was knocking Snap On's horrible Customer Support interface. (Worst I have ever experienced on any type product at any time)I believe the HTP cutters are made in Italy, and they have a lot of very happy users that pop up every now and then."Good Enough Never Is"MIller AC/DC  ThunderboltHobart HH180, 125EZRiland Cut 40 Plasma oxy/act  outfitTons of "stuff", all treasures to me!
Reply:I'm going to save for a hypertherm.  Of course I also have to save for a compressor too...
Reply:...but the compressor lets you use air tools, paint sprayer, blow gun, etc. as well.  Its pretty much an essential shop tool.   Don't try to snak in the back door "for cheap", you'll only end up selling at a loss to get what you should have bought in the first place.  Many of us "under bought" our first plasma cutter (not enough amps),  sold at a loss (big hit off new), and then bought what we needed.  'Tis better to save for another coulpe months to get a setup that you'll have and enjoy using for many. many years."Good Enough Never Is"MIller AC/DC  ThunderboltHobart HH180, 125EZRiland Cut 40 Plasma oxy/act  outfitTons of "stuff", all treasures to me!
Reply:That's pretty much my attitude on most things that I know something about.  One of my big problems is a lack of patience.  You are right, I need to wait a couple of months and buy exactly what I need so I don't have to look back.
