http://www.instructables.com/id/Revi...with-a-Welder/has anyone  tried this? it looks like bs but who knows..
Reply:I have not tried it either but if your nicads wont hold a charge, they may have slivers shorting it out. Some folks use a large capacitor to burn off the shorts.  Some how if I tried a welder I would want to use long leads so I was no where near the battery, they can explode . . . .fred
Reply:It can work.  A decade or so ago we were "zapping" old NiCad cells for our R/C cars.  If done right, it breaks down the crystallization or something similar inside the cell and revives it somewhat.  It can also make them explode if not done properly.  We did it with capacitors, not a welder.  Also, we only did one cell at a time - not the whole pack.
Reply:a decent battery tender/charger will revive batteries in the same fashion. They have a varying high frequency desulfation mode which breaks down the crystals. seems a lot safer to me to spend the 20-90 bucks on a nice battery charger than using my welder haha
