i have a huge old welder Tig/Stick in beutiful shape, however, and my heated space is 200sqft and un heated is 200 square ft. I can't fit the welder inside the heated space with all my other tools I live in vermont so the condesation issue happens with wide temp swings in spring when the snow melts. The welder is in a dry under cover space and its sits on a 2" thick wood deck or shop floor. there is at least 12" of space between the ground and deck and air flower under it all the time. I am worried about it corroding the transformer and contacts and what ever it might. I was thinking, a spray but WD40 that was scorned and silicone was scorned for electrical contacts. If I missed one spray coating that would work let me know. I though of a light bulb and thermal cover, or a low cfm fan inside moving air and a host of other things. Any thoughts? other than expand your shop and heat it. I am going to do this within a year.
Reply:Just bring it in the house where the temps are more stable, throw a table cloth over it and use it as a table until the weather gets to where you can take it back out to the shop.
Reply:they make a paper coated with some thing that is gives off a vapor coating and will keep tools from rusting. It s use for detail metal working tools. you could try that .put in welder then cover it
Reply:Get it up off the floor.  A table three feet or so would make a big difference.  Humidity lingers at floor level. If air gets in between the floor boards put a flat piece of plywood down for it to sit on.I wouldn't spray anything on the internal parts.  Seal up air leaks.  To raise the RH inside the shed you rely on solar warming and reasonable seal to keep moisture laden air out.millermatic 130XPharbour freight 180 amp mig with added caps.hobart stickmate ac/dcpowerarc 200
Reply:Big heavy metal or concrete things that are cold sitting in moist warm air will get wet with condensation.  Only good options are to remove one or more of those variables.1)  Keep those objects warm (see tackit's post above)or2) Keep moist air away (seal inside very dry air-tight package)Another option is to put a cheap ceiling fan in the room.   The moving air will help heat up the objects as the temperature rises, and will also dry them, as long as the air can circulate inside the machines.   Depending on your environment, that may not work.   I live in a narrow valley where the heavy cold moist air settles into the valley at night.   Heavy morning dew hangs around until noon most days, unless there is wind (it is very sheltered down there).   Prior to putting in my insulated concrete floor, the condensation would be running down the inside walls of my steel pole shed.   Vehicles also were wet with moisture.  Was better to leave them outside.I think with your raised wood floor, you shouldn't have too much of a problem, especially if there is dry ground under the floor.   If ground is damp, cover that ground with plastic, or horse stall mats to keep that moisture from evaporating up into the shed.Century buzzbox that I learned on 40+ years ago (was Dad's)Crappy Century 110volt mig 70 amp pigeon pooper.Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300
