I'm finally going to replace the old warped 3/8 top with a 3/4" one. It will have a 4" over hang for clamping and additionally I want to drill 5/8 holes in the interior of table for clamping.2 questions:1. Is there any special tricks or advice on magnetic drill? I have never used one and don't want to waste a weekend screwing up.2. I plan to use the following clamps from strong hands.. They seem ok to me anyone have good or bad experiences with them?http://www.summitracing.com/parts/vt...5150/overview/ThanksDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:If your cutting through 3/4" steel with a mag drill you will want to use a bit of cutting fluid to reduce heat and wear on the bit/broach. If your going to be using 5/8" bolts in the holes, you will want to drill your holes 11/16" dia in size. This leaves a little room for play.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Strength of magnetic holding power is dependent on steel thickness, in other words a magnetic drill probably wouldn't grip on 1/8" rect tubing. I have a Milwaukee which I use a lot.
Reply:The mag drill will hold well on 3/4 but their rating on mine is based off a 1" steel plate. I also prefer Milwaukee's product "Hawg Wash" to keep my cutting bits cool while drilling. It's not terribly expensive and it comes in a concentrated form.Regards,RobGreat Basin WeldingInstagramBlue weldersRed weldersMy luscious Table DIY TIG Torch cooler

Reply:I use Jancy Slugger Cutting Fluid, I purchase on Amazon. It is $29.99 for one gallon which mixes 8:1 to make a total of nine gallons. I use a hand spray bottle and a $7.99 one gallon garden sprayer from Menards, for application."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!!
